Thats what it sounds like (according to another member on mbshop). I hope this is the case as the display on our 00 S500 went out yesterday.

Will be calling the service dept. about it and report back when I know more.

Instrument Cluster has gone bad as well

My PANEL WENT OUT TOO!!!!
it began with the lights starting to flicket, but the gauges still worked, now.. no lights or guages.. If anyone has any idea on how i can get this fixed properly and not spending alot of $$$$$ let me know please...

I called Mercedes about that RECALL 06V028000 = they searched by my VIN # and said that my 00' S430 didn't have this specific recall for my vehicle. The recall (according to the previous thread) - said 36000 + vehicles were affected... it also stated "THE MANUFACTURER HAS NOT YET PROVIDED AN OWNER NOTIFICATION SCHEDULE" - do you think that may be a reason why they said that? Well, I am attempting to contact Mark in FL as mentioned in previous threads... I will let you know what he says, how much he charges and how everything works out....

You might want to check back in a little bit. I dont think the recall has shown up on VMIs yet so if not, thats why they told you your car wasnt part of the recall. The only way we know if a car is included is if it shows on your cars VMI.

Unhappy thanks for the reply

I appreciate that info - - I got my cluster back from the www.4mercedes.com company, and it costed me $560.00 not including the cost of shipping it out, and since i next day'd it; costed me about 85.00 = making a grand total of $645.00 - - said they had to repair lightboard and powersupply i believe (dont have invoice in front of me) = well... i got it back and hooked it all back up and NO LIGHTS = when i turned the Car on, the SRS light came on- but thats it... called the CO. and they said that the tech is out today, and will call me in the AM.. they have been very professional and courteous throughout the whole process.. and said if they cant trbl shoot over phone and resolve it, to send it back out and they will take a look at it again... The Problem now is probably not the Instrument Cluster ( i'm hoping ) - I made a big mistake the other day - i read something about the 5A fuse going out when the cluster does, so I opened the fuse box, and pulled out the 5a fuse, and it Looked OK, but when i had it pulled out IT FELL inside the box, and now is LONG GONE , and during that whole dilemma, dropping it, caused me to forget where it WENT!!! can someone, anyone tell me where it needs to go, I looked in my trunk for the Fuse Diagram but cant find it, is there a special place to look for that?

Can anyone take a picture of theirs? pleeeeeeeease help me

You mean you forgot where the fuse belong to ?
f19,f20,f21 and f22 are all for instrument cluster. But, they all are 7.5As.
The nearest 5A fuse is from f18, which is emergency telephone.

They in fact are 5a fuses as you thought. There are 3 of them I believe F20, F21 and F22. They are located in the 6,7 and 8 spots in the fuse box counting from the top right down. I tried to post a scan of my diagram but no luck. Hope this helps good luck. I also had the guys in FL fix my cluster and it still works great.

Thanks for your response, I really appreciate it.. .makes me love this forum more and more.. but i counted down, spots 6,7,8 are currently occupied by 7.5a fuses... but i'm still lost on where my 5a fuse went... ya think its different for a S430 than a S500? - also... u got urs fixed from them? did u have to replace your fuses as well? thanks again

2000 S'430
anyone? ? pleeeeease help

hey everyone,

I have a 2000 S'430

well.. I cant wait until june to get mine replaced, but i did send mine in to get fixed, got it back and it still doesnt work!!! sent it to www.4mercedes.com and spent about $645.00 total = which isnt bad compared to the dealership.. but i got it back and plugged it in, and it doesnt work.. but i may have contributed to the problem, I read in another thread that it may be a 5a fuse... so i took the one in the fuse box out and looked at it.. and it fell out of my hands.. and into the bottom of the box.. and through all that commotion I forgot where it went.. I also was told by the repair guy (cluster repair man) that I just needed to replace the 7.5a fuse... found one that was Blown, and I replaced it.. I actually replaced all the 7.5a fuses, i attached a picture.. i actually added one to the slot circled in BLUE, and the 5A circled in red - I"M not sure if thats where it goes.. i'm hoping someone out there can take a look at there's and see if where i have mine is correct... pleeeease help me.. I would really really appreciate it.. thanks fellow members...

Intrument cluster (thanks for link)

Thanks to Srapmurphy for the link to a company called BBA-Reman here in the UK. http://www.bba-reman.com/content.asp...hboard_cluster

My intrument cluster went out mid last week, the speedometer just went out followed by everything else flickering, then fading, again and again... Very annoying.

I took it straight to a local Mercedes Benz Service Station who could do nothing except offer a replacment fitted for £800.00!!!

Going back to the BBA-Reman point, I couldn't believe my luck when checking through the many intrument cluster postings when I found this above link, as the company is literally based around the corner from me in the UK, so I popped round after visiting Merecedes the same day.

They can do the job and have seen this many times in W220's and other makes too, Audi TT's and so on, but are awaiting the chips to arrive in from the US due to a shortage because Mercedes are making the chip manufacturer hold onto the chips and not resell onto companies like this, money making on Mercedes' part?

Anyway, they tell me some should be available from the US and shipped over soon...

I wish there is some law over here like in the US, which would make Mercedes recall the affected units and replace..

There are at least two major threads on this board regarding the instrument cluster removal and recall, and I thought it might be good to make sure we all know of both since we all seem to be in the same boat--and the boat seems to be sinking ...glug, glug, glug, glug.

Here's the other forum, which started after the recall whereas this one started two years earlier:

Is the date as BOGUS as the **** phone number? Maybe it was just a mistake but you need to know that no one here appreciates an a$$hole! If the date is correct, please explain where you got it, and if the ****-line phone number is a mistake, please post the correct number. Otherwise GET LOST!

I'd say welcome, but I don't think you are...

I don't see the BOGUS porno hotline number you posted above, loser! What happened? They didn't give you a good lookin' hooker? If you want to advertise your sideline business, become a sponsor, if they let perverts become sponsors here.

Bogus Number

Isn't it just possible that the number was copied down wrong? The exchange is correct. Furthermore, the wrong one is not much of a "****" line. It refers you to another number to "talk to interesting people," and hangs up. No charge. It would be a fairly lame joke. Mistake seems more likely.

Benzlovr,

Could you scan your copy of the recall letter from MB and post as a PDF for us to see. I already had mine repaired and would like to get my money back soon. Thanks
