ipad in 220
Sorry, but I really have to disagree with the cheerleaders about integrating the iPad into the dash. Have seen this type of thing done in Rovers a lot in my past. It just doesn't make sense.
I have an iPad and the coolest thing about it is portability and slim line profile. I know the 220 Nav totally sucks and I know that the iPad is only $800 or so, but this mod seems to take something away from the true, German engineering that I fell in love with when I got my 220.
I actually leave my nav off most of the time since it sucks, it's too pricey to update all the time, etc. and I have the iPad on the passenger seat right next to me all the time anyway.
You know what happens when you start hacking up the interior of a finely engineered German masterpiece...........
Sorry, my $0.02
Thanks,

For a system that's 7yrs old I think it doesn't embarass itself!

Just thinking of getting a new iPad to install in W220. It's a bit hard for me to choose the right one from all the iPad versions. What should I consider? The size? Or the charging method?

I don't think iPads are really convenient as a head unit, you should instead buy an Android aftermarket head unit, it's cheaper, looks better and also has a touch screen if that's what you're looking for. I've seen some out there for 500-600$. Screen size is the same as the facelift version, so it's about the same size as an iPad Mini.

The Germans are great engineers, but not one OEM is doing their infotainment that well. Apple or Google or literally years ahead of the OEMs. And that's speaking of systems right now, in 2019. There isn't a single good part of a 20 year old "high end" system, today.

On the other hand, the Android head units are an easier install, come with some fantastic features like CANBUS integration, tire pressures, dash camera DVR, and reverse camera.
Yeah I just did the Android in my 03 s600 and couldn’t be happier. Still need to intergrate the steering wheel buttons and I had to add an external amp. Luckily I still had an old JL amp from my high school days so fairly easy install.

That's very nice. Looks like you went with one of the bigger screens. Which model is that ?
