20 inch rims

I just purchased a set of 20 inch asanti rims for my 2003 s430 and it seems every time i take a corner really hard or hit a big dip in the road at high speeds the tire rubs against the wheel well. I hear it only rubing on the right side. Is this normal? And can this do major damage?

no its not normal, but yes it can be common with the wrong size/offset rims or tires.

Whether it does damage and how dangerous it is Depends on how extreme the rubbing is and what is rubbing and where. Sometimes its just a light rubbing of the wheelwell liner, but I have seen the inside of the tire lose chunks of rubber if its hitting a suspension component, leading to tire failure. I have also seen bent fender lips from the wheel hitting it on sharp turning

well this is the right tire size because discount tire told me this is what i need and i even checked with a mercedes technician and he told me thats the right size. My air pump for my suspension is building condensation up in it and its not working as good as it used to and its making noise. Could this possibly have an affect on it.

20's rubbing

Mine also rubs when I go over a dip in the road, but only when Im going faster than 90Kph, so I just hit the ride height whenever Im approaching that dredded dip in my road.
Haven't noticed any damage to the tire or the fender..

is it only the right side that rubs on your car. cause thats the only thing im worried about is that something is wrong with my right side suspension or rim and tire

Yes, it only rubs on the right hand side for some reason?
check while your car is running (suspension pump on) how many fingers you can fit between the tire and the top of the wheel on both sides, push the ride height lift button and check again. should have equal gaps on both sides, also check after the car settles when off.
These cars usually have suspension leaks in the front, rare to have a rear leak but it is possible

You dont understand...its not JUST the size of the tire itself, but where the tire is sitting in relation the wheelwell...this is where you get into rim offsets, and most people get the wrong offsets on their custom rims.

some rims place the tire too far inboard or too far towards the fender lip, so they arent in the centermost part of the wheelwell, and thats why they rub.

If your tire was perfectly centered in the wheelwell and is of the right size, it should not rub. But if the rim is offset too far inboard or out, it will start rubbing on turns and bumps since the wheelwell is lower towards the edges than in the center

As I said earlier, if the tire is sitting too far inboard, suspension can eat chunks of rubber off the tire...if its sitting too far outboard, it can damage your fender.

It's common, there's a few members on here that have trimmed the metal tab in the pass. rear wheel well, that should stop the rubbing.

Hmm.. the offset is correct? I have 20" wheels and they don't rub ever.
