W220 Head Light Out...
This AM...I just found out Wifey's W220 (2000) has the driver's side head light out. She said that the LowBeam indicator pops up in the dash.
So...All AM long I tried to do some searches here, but haven't had much luck on " How To " just replace the light bulb on these. However...I did see some of the head light upgrades, but I am so not into that yet...lol
If anyone knows or has done this b4 or any suggestions as how to replace light bulbs and should I replace both of them at the same time, would be greatly appreciated.
TIA.
You have several option as far as replacement bulbs.
1. Buy 2 original H7 bulbs from parts.com at about $7.00 each part#400809000007.
2. Buy Sylvania silverstar or silverstar ultra for $30 and $40 per pair. These will give you brighter headlights. I am using silverstar myself.
Installation is quite easy. It is recommended to replace both sides.
Remove the left side cover (there are 2 covers) from the left headlight unit and remove the upper bulb from the retaining clip, remove wire socket from the old bulb and connect it to the new bulb. Insert the new bulb into place and attach the clip, make sure it is secure. Place the black cover back and do the right side headlight, you're done.
You can also take it to a service station and they should be able to do it for you.
Good luck!
Ps. The rear lights look perfect, no need to replace those. Wink!
I thought it is a dual beam bulb. It is the D2R bulb. When I talked to an Ebay seller who says I need the H7 which I am not familiar of. Do they look the same between the D2R and the H7 ?
How about the Transmission dip stick, how do we remove it to check the fluid ?
I tried the ones from Ebay, they look nice and bright but don't last long.
You have to break the red tab on the transmission dipstick tube cover and push the remaining piece in the cover downward with a small screwdriver and catch it.
There is no dipstick though, you have to buy one.

You know speaking of H7 and D2R, Some calls it either one and they are all the same. Did a search of pics. Both came up with H7 or D2R. So...I am really confused. Hope they're the right ones.

There should be a way to mod one up for the dipstick tool in here. I guess not.

if you wanted to stick to factory spec, it's 4300k, and I wouldn't go beyond 6k.
it's the same bulb that these hid companies are using, but the base/fitment is TOTALLY different.
D2R is the oem bulb size.
H7 is the bulb for halogens, cars not equipped with oem hids, like the s430 (without option)...

Hope the 12000K is not going to be as Blue as you said...lol This guy on ebay has another at 30000K @ $29.99+$9.99 Shipping. But the 12000K is free shipping. Ordered them already. We'll see...lol
Non Xenons use the H7. 12V-55W
Will keep y'all posted on how Blue they will be at 12000K...lol
Have a great day, Gentlemen!
when you look at the headlight. The K is the color temp (not hot / cold) of the light emitted. Closer to zero will give a yellowish color. Higher you go will give you a blue look which makes the light emitted look extremely blueish/white. what you want is the middle, as mentioned above 4300K to approximately 6000K/6500K
. The problem with the higher ###K is that when it rains poor visibility and in some cases the surrounding lighting condition.

First time got to do anything at all with this car.
Have a great one.
What would you suggest on the 3 ?
Love the color of the 12000K which matched up with the LED fog lights very well. Just not as bright.
Found the 6000K at $11.94 for the 2 of the D2Rs on ebay and also had asked the seller if they have any and exchange them. Waiting for the response.
Thanks xexpo.
If you find some high quality 6000K+, I think you may be happy with the color and the brightness.
Let me know if you find some good ones.
