Help - I cannot use the accelerator KickDown anymore... without going limbo...
Hi,
My 2000 S500 developed this problem very recently. The engine is running great and strong, the transmission as well. However, I have no problemgoing all over the rpm as long as I don't hit the little kickdown button under the accelerator pedal. Let say I am driving on the highway, I can use the "steptronic" shifter, put it in 3rd and hit the pedal to the floor (without touching the kickdown button) and it will push strong all the way to the top rpm. I can do that on any gear at anytime, even from a standstill start. However, if I press the accelerator too hard and hit the kickdown button, the car goes into a limbo mode. What I mean is, it seels like the accelerator pedal is about 3-4 seconds late and give only 50% of power to the engine (opens the throttle body half way only, even if I am at the floor). It feels like the response is very very very slow and weak. Now, If I shutdown the car, and restart immediately, everything gets back to normal...
Plugs are new and car has 100K...
Thanks

2000 Mecedes Benz S430
this's been going on for several years now since i bought the car. there're no error code etc. have taken it to my mechanic/MB dealer with no success they charged me for check up but no solution.one thing i noticed it tends to happen more often after it's been driven softly in lower speeds/revs for long period of time and when i suddenly decide to floor it and drive hard it lets me down. it feels like it is stalling. a few minutes of hard driving seems to improve the issue at least until next time! the problem is that it does not leave an error code or something so nobody understands the problem ...

I had this problem too, and it was the throttle position sensor. It's in the accelerator pedal, so that needs to be changed. It was not too expensive, If I remember correctly with labor and parts it was less than $300.

have the same problem but i barely drive it past 1500rpm as im very lazy driving and want people to know that when turning, my freakin air struts are expensive so i gotta take it easy.. and shes very beautiful.
its definitely throttle position, if u do proceed to fix prob then theres a way to trick the throttle's response time but kinda amplifies the signal so its not that great but still good for a boost!!

Rondocap is correct!
I had the same problem with my SL 600. M.B. dealer verified it on their computer.
I found one searching on Google for $184.00. You get the pedal along with the sensor.
