hello MBWorld i just bought my s430 12-24-10 been looking for a benz for only 5months so i got lucky and got a good deal plus the guy had a his and her's s-class and of course i wanted the s-500 but he would not budge on the price. anyways i cant wait to learn more about my s-class going to take it to get a oil and tranny service tuesday. now i asked the guy did he go to the dealer to get the oil changed i also asked one of my coworkers they both said no cost to much i think they said $350 i think.wow so they both said they go to jiffy lube. is this okay? i think they get the royal purple. on my dash it says overdue for service 6000miles. does this mean tune up or just oil or tranny change? car runs very smooth. oh and sometime the remote does not pop the trunk i think thats it no leaks. so could anybody tell me about that 6000 miles overdue. thanks

First thing is Congrats on your car.
Just a few questions
What year is your car?
How many miles does it have on it?
6000 miles over on service. Which service A, B etc?
If everthing on the car is working fine then I would carry it to the MB dealer or a very good independent MB mechanic, and have it checked out and do both oil change.

You can do just an oil change at the dealer for around $135 or so, $350 is probably the A or B Service. (They basically check stuff, change some filters, etc)

I'd take it to a Mercedes independent in your area, and do the oil change, make sure they use Mobil 1 synthetic. (0W40 is what I use) Jiffy lube may not use the right filter, oil, and who knows what.

Your car has what is known as the Flexible Service System, or FSS. It measures the condition of the oil, and calculates when it needs to be changed; normally, this will be between 10,000 and 13,000 miles or 1 year, whichever comes first.

You need to stick to MB recommended oils, and filters. MB requires a fleece filter; Jiffy Lube likely doesn't have it, and if they do, I doubt it will be of the required quality.

You can sign up as an owner on the MBUSA website - it's free - and download a copy of your owner's manual if you don't have one. For some good reading and troubleshooting on your car, see the pdf file at post 36, https://mbworld.org/forums/s-class-w...rt-here-2.html - it also tells you how to download other manuals.

^^Ummmm - $160 per month is $1920 per year. Work harder on your arithmetic, hardwork.

That is pretty high, but I have no idea of your risk factors or coverage limits. However, I pay less per year to insure two Mercedes, with fairly high coverage limits and low deductibles.

That is a lot for insurance , I pay about $1100/year, full coverage etc, etc. There are a lot of things that affect your insurance other than tickets: age, zip code, married, own or rent a home, garage, even the color of the car, safety features, crime in your zip code, credit score, have you ever been dropped by another company etc. The insurance companies are ALL linked with information. Have you tried shopping around on the internet or calling around. The insurance companies will use every means to jack the price up.

A Mercedes obviously!
$160/mo on an '01 S430!! Wow! I pay about a quarter of that as a 25yr old on an '04 S600!!

I doubt any warranty worth having will cover a car with 152,000 miles on the clock.

you are in CA the best rates for most cA drivers is through Wawanesa. Get a quote youll probably be shocked.

http://www.wawanesageneral.com/CA/EN/home.html

AAA is high.

I would not pay $350 for an inspection they will just "find things"

A lot of people have been through this. Your dealer needs to check your VIN against a recall that may still be outstanding for your car. See http://www.benzworld.org/forums/w220...tart-here.html or alternatively post #36 at https://mbworld.org/forums/s-class-w...rt-here-2.html and download the pdf file - this time, read to the section on the instrument cluster.

Your car is well past the extended warranty that was put into effect on the cluster. If you're not under the recall (which has no expiration date), the $600 repair is your best option. You can check the links in the Encyclopedia for repairs, and see if the prices are any lower.
