05' S600 - Creepin' Forward From a Stop....
Maybe, (definitely) I am just not used to this car, but does your S600 creep forward when you let off the brake from a stop, on a flat road?
Or do you have to press down on the accelerator to get it moving?
My car does not move forward by just letting off the brake..
I realize the car is something like 4400 lbs, but I need to know if this is how she should behave....
No, the parking brake is not engaged....

Most of the S600's and CL600's I've had crept forward a tiny bit, or none at all. The only thing possible would be worn wheel bearing or sticky caliper or ebrake. But my experience is very little if any creep and the famously long throttle tip-in (because when you're the CEO it's low class to make your CFO's head bob back and forth each time you hit the gas in your 500HP beast).

I only have a cl500 and s430, and older sl600 r129s, but the one thing I first noticed (compared to non MB cars) is that these MB do NOT CREEP FORWARD AT IDLE with your foot off the gas, like most other cars do. You have to give them some gas to move.
I think this is the way MB designed them since all my MBs do this

Strange, my car rolls up to 3-4 mph right away

Hey Chris:
My car does NOT roll if you lift off the brake, in fact to even get over the 1" lip in my garage I have to hit the gas.
My feeling on this issue is that the torque converter slips enough at idle, that you have to give it a little gas to get her rolling. AKA the weight of the car over comes the slipping/gripping of the TC.
Nothing to worry about my friend.

I have a 2001 S600, had a C43 and lots of automatic cars to include an automatic 928S4, all stock, automatic cars will creep or roll forward. My drag/race car that was automatic had 625+ hp and a 4500 stall torque convert, did not creep forward as it would not until the engine/transmission reached an rpm high enough that the slippage was gone. reason is, your stock car has a torque converter with around 1200rpm stall, very little, if it had more you would burn your transmission up in everyday traffic. Also, the cam profile, has very little overlap which allows the car to produce vacuum. A high stall converter (3000+) compensates for the lack of vacuum produce by the greater ovewrlap that the cam profile produces. Therefore to converters lets you allow the engine to idle at a higher rpm, 1500+ to allow the engine to produce enough vaccum for the brakes and get the engine into the rpm powerband. stock evryday cars do not have this condition. If my S600 does not creep forward at a reasonable speed, 2-3 mph, there is something wrong and slipping in the transmission, and whenever I mass the accerlerator is does not go, I have a problem. i could be way off base, maybe mercedes made something different to make the car not roll forward for smoother acceleration, but I do not think so. hopefully someone can correct me if I am wrong becaus eif this is true and it is not suppose to roll forward when you let the brake off in gear, my car's transmission is about to blow up!

Correct me if I am wrong but I read somewhere that the transmission starts off in 2nd gear, not 1st. to avoid spinning the tires when there is not enough traction on the road eg, wet, snow, etc.. There are a lot of cars that do that because of the amount of engine power.

I talked to a SA at Ray Catena Mercedes Benz in NJ and he reminded me that because I was in Comfort mode the vehicle starts in 2nd gear.
That may be the problem.
When I get home today, I will try it out in Standard mode and verify.
Thank you all again for your input.

I played on the way home in traffic. I usually drive in S mode but found it creeps in C mode as well, just a lot more slowly. Amazing how much of a difference pulling away in C and S mode feels!

Thank you guys again for the responses.
I went out last night to test it and sure enough, in S mode it creeps forward, but in C mode it does not.

I usually keep my s430 in s mode too... No creep. As I said upthread the biggest difference I noticed when driving mb vs many American cars ius that you have to give the mb gas to get it rolling from a stop, while other cars you can just let your foot off the brake

I love fixing my own issues, as it rarely happens at such little cost ( and by that I mean zero dollars).
