I am glad to see there is a Forum for W220. Mine is the entry-level S-Class, black S430, 2000 w/21K miles. Unfortunately, the phone was removed. Does anyone know whether I can just buy a Motorola phone and plug it in vs. buying one from a dealer (or eBay)?
Thanks in advance! Jaeger

Congrats. Now you're spoiled and can never go back......
Best way to get a phone is to ask the dealer who they have do their specialty phone install work for them. That contractor should have plenty of the Motorola phones compatible with the 2000 S electronics laying around.....for a good price, including install....and they'll probably warranty for you. These guys will usually come to your house on weekends to do the work.

You will need to buy a phone from Mercedes, or a Mercedes branded Motorola v60 because they have a different firmware which allows functionality with the car then when compared with a regular v60 from Motorola without the Mercedes firmware.

you will need to retrofit the phone system, v60's will not work on your analog setup, and then buy a mercedes v60 phone, the setup and phone will run you over 2000$ including installation, or you can do what i did, goto ebay and buy the startak phone thats supposed to come with the 2000 car and then plug it in, it will all seem like its working except you wont be able to make a call since its analog, those phones are about 50 bucks on ebay

No longer car shopping...
you may want to do a little more research before buyng on eBay
The appropriate Motorola "timeport" phone may work in your '00 model mercedes if it is a late year model Aug '0 mfg (I think). Go to the dealer for the details on the EXACT phone that works with your system. They will tell you it must come from them (Benz) but you can get one off of eBay and then have it programmed by Mercedes &/or the service provider you use. You MUST make certain the one you buy on eBay not only has the Benz label on it, but also supports the carrier you choose (i.e. mine is AT&T and it only works with that carrier). There are a few on eBay who say..."It's a TDM phone so it should work...". Run away from those sellers. Sure they may be offerin it cheap, but it may not work with your provider. Expect to pay about $200 for a Benz timeport phone. PS - I was trying to change mine from AT&T to verizon and decided it wasn't worth the hassle so I just stayed with AT&T when I got the new car. My current car is an '01 but I was researching the '00's prior...
