one more question would it make a diff if the rear are different brand than the front?

You arent driving your car on the racetrack where the last 1% of performance is crucial. For street driving purposes, You can even have a different brand tire on each wheel (Ive seen and driven many cars like that!)
Is it preferable for all 4 tires to have the same tread pattern? Sure , but its perfectly fine if they are different brands.

i have tried practically every tire manufacturer over the years and have accumulated 4 sets of rims for my sclass alone.
i have used,
Vredestein Sessanta- excellent tire and good value
Goodyear Eagle RSA- worst tire ever produced by goodyear.. multiple and constant flats
Goodyear F1- decent tire
Michelin Pilot Sport- good tire but expensive and overrated not worth it
Continental Extreme Contact DWS- the best all around practical tire i have ever used i now have it in 3 of my cars and very pleased. currently running a 245/45/19 on my lorinser rims in my sclass very comfortable and meaty to protect my rims from damage of lower profile rims. 540 treadwear good for close to 60k miles and very tough. i have 25k on the tires now and still more then 50% treadlife with occasional aggressive driving
The problem that occurs is called dynamic coupling. My wife experienced it when she left Eagle GTs on her sports car, and put snow tires on the back. That mixed a relatively soft rubber performance tire and tread with a high-traction, cold weather compound. The dynamic coupling forced the front tire sidewalls to bend and squirm, and made the car unsteerable over 35mph. She got about 5 miles from the shop, turned around and had them take the new snow tires off. Her experience was somewhat like benzat17's with his van, except (fortunately) she didn't leave the road; but she couldn't say in her lane over 35 mph. Later, after a more knowledgeable shop researched it for her, she found a better match.
BTW - I have Michelin Primacy MXV4s on my car, and I love them - but they suit my location and driving style (2 factors that should weigh heavily in your choice; The Tire Rack has tire choice calculators that consider them). While I got 35K out of my OE Continentals, I couldn't wait to get them off the car. At 25K they developed run-out (out of round) and vibrated between 60 and 70. If I hadn't gone with the Michelins, I have bought the Goodyear F1s.

I'll be putting DWS on my W220 and W210 when it is due for both.
I've also tried a HOST of tire brands, Conti SportContact 2, Pzero for my 911, Yoko Advan AD07 (GREAT summer/track tire), Yoko Prada, Toyo T1R (crap), Falken 452s (similar crap), Michelin PS2, etc. etc. etc... and so far, for my current situation (don't care about speed as much or lateral G), ExtremeContact DWS is perfect! It looks great on our X5 4.8is's 315/35/20 rears.
plus i got all 4 shipped to nyc in a more expensive 245/45/19 size for $810 shipped.
i have them in a 245/45/17 also on my 1980 turbo diesel with lorinser rims that i paid $680 shipped. i have close to 30k on those tires and about 50% tread left.
it is continentals best tire especially for the price it cant be beat.
btw to poster a couple posts up mixing different tires is the worst and dangerous things you could do. it messes with the cars wheel alignment and puts added stress on all of your front or rear end components. i would advise keeping it on only as an emergency and getting rid of ASAP.
i never tried lots of tires like you guys did but from an experience the continental mxv4 was good to me on both my old benz and this one
and its better idea to change the 4 tires even tho my front has 80% and my back has 30% or so left
1) I need 2 tires up front, I have 2 new ContProContact in the rear 225 55 R17. PS getting an allihnemtn as well
2) I want to get a set of different Mercedes Rims and I think i heard that since I have a 4matic, I can't use the MB AMG ones? True? I have the 17 in 5 spoke standard ones.
3) I would like to get the phone adapter for the center console, suggestions?
4) I live on Long Island, any "need to knows"?
Car just hit 60K, bought it with 51K

With a 4Matic it is critical that all 4 tires have the same rolling radius (revolutions per mile). This will work best if your tires and wheels are all the same. While you can stagger the wheels, it is somewhat complicated to do and still have all 4 tires with the same rolling radius; and doing so will look weird. There is more written up on this, and the search tool will help you find it if you need it.
Regarding use of AMG wheels on a 4matic - The Tire Rack website (or calling them) can likely help you. Offset is important, and AMG probably makes wheels that will fit your 4matic. They make a variety of styles. In addition, your dealership can advise as to fit, if you are buying wheels sold as OE or as options at delivery. Some particular wheels may not fit, but it is likely others can. BTW, I happen to think the OE wheel style you have looks great, and I have kept it on my car.
The phone adapter (puck) you need is either the B6 787 5878 (silver and blue) or B6 787 6131 (smaller, and black). No differences are known between the two in terms of electronics and firmware. Both are compatible with a wider range of handsets than the first MHI puck, B6 787 5839. I suggest you check http://www.benzworld.org/forums/audi...ades-plug.html - especially permalink #5 - for information on confirming whether your car has the other necessary equipment for a phone system.
The only "need to know" that I can think of is to add where you live to the section under your avatar, using the User Control Panel. The continent you live on, and sometimes the country, can have an effect on the proper answers (especially when dealing with electronics), because the cars may be built to different specifications.
