I can't decide on which car I want to puchase, both are fully loaded. I love to go fast and also like a great handling car. I'm concerned with maintenance, reliability and resale value with the s600.. What do you guys think?

IMO the S600 looks much better and has more refinement.

The E55 will be brute force with the supercharger.

The S600 is faster though with luxury and safety.

Mods for mods the E55 will cost more to reach the 600 performance once modded.

I see your coming from a Viper, neither will be as aggressive. That's why you need the

S600 since it will be the opposite feeling of the Viper, yet same deadly speed.

if you like a good handling car, neither choice is a good one.

I'd take the S6 all day every day.

Which ever car I get I'm going to squeeze every bit of power out of it I can (bolt on only). Which has the most potential?

the s600 can get into the low 11s with just a $1500 tune.

See youtube.
possible 10s with drag tires, upgrade and ice the intercooler, race gas, etc.

I'd go for the S600 too. The E55 has that "brute" force and is much livelier, but by no means is it a great handling car when compared to other cars like an M5.

Normally I'd say go for the E55 for the fun to drive factor, but considering you have a Viper already, the S600 is the perfect compliment to it. Fast, but much more comfortable and refined. Plus mods can get you very fast for relatively cheap.

Skip either car if you're looking for handling and speed.

I agree, M5 or even Alpina B7 if you want something that resembles "handling."

Otherwise, separate handling and speed from luxury and comfort. You will never be satisfied either way if you try to combine both.

I sold my W211 E55 after 6 months of ownership, a trip from LA to SF, and after driving it in the canyons.

The S55 will destroy the Alpina B7 in handling, both nice cars though, The 7 series is probably the only BMW that doesn't reek of ricer tool.

I agree with Oliverk, for sure.....S600, all day, everyday!

The resale is not bad if you pick up the S600 already used and purchase a top quality warranty. I did just that.
My S600 just went in for service and is getting a multitude of parts replaced (coil packs, wheels bearings, ABC parts, etc.) and just had all of it approved through warranty this past Wednesday.

I read his 'S6' comment as Audi S6 as opposed to S600...

A lot of people compare the m5 with the e55, but I've driven both and they are extremely different cars. The m5 is very nervous and edgy, especially in m mode, so it becomes a focused handling car. The around town ride with that gearbox is uncomfortable and clunky, but when you open up the v10 it is beautiful.

To contrast, the e55 is a more comfortable daily driver with stronger torque. It loses some in handling, and the driving experience is not as connected, but it is more livable for regular use.

The s600 takes that further, heavier but smoother and more refined. There is much less drama when accelerating. The m5 will jerk your body back every gear change, he s600 will just pin you back.

Really 3 different cars, depends if you value pure performance/handling over something more refined. All 3 are fantastic cars.
