SmartKey @ Park Place Motorcars Dallas? $350 No F'ing way....

Whatta Stealership:

Park Place Motorcars
6113 Lemmon Ave
Dallas TX

$350 for a new smart key for a 2002 S430. They must think I'm a freaking idiot. Anybody know a cheaper place to get a new key or how to program a used one?

Is it just me or does this type of thread come up about once a week?

I looked at all of the older threads, but all of the links to oemparts.com, etc. are no longer valid. Sorry to beat a dead horse, but I need some fresh advice, mi amigo...........

FYI: The only place I can find a key is:

http://www.originalkeyless.com/2002-...Key-Remote.htm

$74.99, but it's the old black style, not the newer chrome style.

I VERY doubt that key would work, but be the first to try and let us know. Keys are coded and delivered to the dealership, no other ways around it. Have you searched for originalkeyless.com on this forum? Only one post and they claimed it is a scam?

Exactly where? When I looked in "W220 OWNERS START HERE" all I saw was:

1. How to change batteries - DIY : How to Replace batteries in your keyfob with Pictures

2. Key won’t work – post 4, http://www.benzworld.org/forums/w220...lp-please.html

I'm no professor, but neither of those seem to address the issue I posted.........but, hey, thanks for filling my post with your snippy, irrelevant thoughts.

Cheers

FYI: Royal @ MB Lynwood WA says they can only sell the keys to customers in person, with vehicles registered in the state of Washington. I even asked if I could fax/email a copy of my Texas title, DL, insurance card, but......no go.

Ok, here are the current rules for getting a replacement key:

1. They can ONLY be obtained from a MB dealer.
2. You MUST bring your registration or title to the dealer IN PERSON to order a replacement.
3. Most people report a price of $250. If you get quoted more, check another dealer.
4. There is no special programming or coding that needs to be done once you get the genuine key, it just works.

DON'T BUY KEYS ONLINE (ebay, originalkeyless, ...anywhere), THEY WON'T WORK.

Thanks for the clear, prompt response Babyman1737! (Maybe we should add this to the START HERE sticky?)
