Hi, I updated my 'ridiculous and thin' original steering wheel +2 years ago. Mine is light wood (chestnut) and grey leather. I can say this type of steering is, from my experience, a step beyond. See my pics. Hope it helps.

I think that looks a bit ridiculous in the S, although I do wish the stock wheel was a bit thicker.

I tried the Lorinser one on a friend's car and the grip is phenomenal.

Your first link doesn't look like the vented one.

speak for yerself 8-)

I think that one looks fantastic, and the ones I've FELT feel damn GOOD! I'd love to rock one in mine some day. I don't think ours lack girth, just 'shape' near the natural grips. This solves that.

Very cool, good luck.

I believe I did. I know this, because I said "i think".

I just think it looks far too aggressive for a cushy boat. At least it doesn't have a flat bottom.

Let me tell you I have made many updates to my dear W220 to give a sportier according to me. I'm a thirty-something (close to forty). I'm from Spain and here this car is mostly driven by 'old men'. I totally agree 'Sgt. Schultz'. I'm very pleased with the major changes done to my car, and this wheel is one of the updates I will never take back. The grip is unique in every way (and thicker all around). I don't know how much 'tasho3' consider is a low or high price. One official MB workshop asked me for about $900 price to replace mine worn by the same original one. Finally I got this sports steering wheel for half the price. Is that expensive? Of course not, I think.

'tasho3', what colour combination of wood and leather are you exactly looking for? I'm asking because I have not clear. You say your leather colour is black (= charcoal). Wood of most W220 I have seen is walnut (dark brown) or chestnut (light brown). In my case (grey leather & chestnut wood), I was looking for this wheel almost one year. All wheels didn't match my combo colours. Finally I find a seller on eBay and paid an extracost ($60) to get grey leather. And $1200? You can get one for less than $450. Let me know and I'll try to help you if you are interested.

I hated the stock wheel on my S500. Actually, I HATED the stock wheel on my S500. It was like something straight off a '79 Caprice. I had no idea they made such skinny wheels with the bumps on the back of the rim any more. So, I swapped mine out for the one in the pics below. Best change I could ever make to the car.

I don't think it's as agressive as some of the wheels linked above. I think it fits the car just perfectly (even if it is a big, luxo boat), since my car has the AMG sport package to begin with.

I can not imagine a W220 AMG without these kind of wheel. I don't have an AMG sport package in my car (next update) but having this wheel is a must. I like yours too. Not exactly the same like mine but same concept. May I ask, where did you get (ChapelHillMBFan) and how much it cost? I got mine from eBay seller 'autopart_fr' for about 450 dollars. After almost two and half years the leather has started to peel slightly (as also happened to my original), but not too.

I bought my wheel here:

http://www.performanceproducts4benz.com/

I love the quality. Great leather, and the burl walnut is a perfect match. It was $9XX, but I bought it when they were offering 10% or 15% off. Not cheap with the installation, but worth every penny.

Well, watching your photo it seems your car ('tasho3') is a combination of black (charcoal) leather and light brown (chestnut) wood. Yes, I think your wood colour is like mine and not like 'ChapelHillMBFan''s dark brown (burl walnut). I know there are 3 types of wood: eucalyptus, chestnut and burl walnut. Most common leather colours are black/charcoal, grey and beige. If you have any doubt, ask your MB workshop and they will give you all details about your car leather and wood colours. In my case, that's what I did it. All these features are in a database they can easily access. Make sure that everything is clear before buying anything.

Correct, now where do I find a color matching steering for a decent price?

To start try on eBay, for example. If you can't find the combo that matches your leather and wood colours, don't worry and ask seller to solve it. Probably they can contact the manufacturer as they did for my steering wheel. Besides, if you live in the USA you can save shipping cost because there are many sellers in your country or in Taiwan that offer free or very low cost shipping for it. Let me contact two sellers of my previous purchases that perhaps they can help. So, I will ask for black leather and chestnut wood. Right?

Yes, you're right. But you'll find this colour as black too on internet, although it's more correct to call it 'charcoal'.
