i dont own one.. but i always love turbo cars, i liked the skyline gtr models with their notorious bulletproof rb26dett motor, i guess the question is how much torque can the s600 transmission can take???
thanks guys!!

The Speedriven 750/800 tune package will net you 800 hp and 940 ft/lb if you can find 94 octane. That's pretty impressive for a luxury sedan, dontcha think?
Of course, that will set you back ~$15,200-16,300.

Tranny is NOT the problem, as it can handle anything you throw at her.Originally Posted by classyS

Now Half shafts, and pinion gears, thats another story.
A few here, while running slicks, drag radials, have broken their pinion gears on launch. That is, IF, you turn all of the TL's off with your tune. I left one on just for this reason.
A few have also broken half shafts, same story as above.
Moral of the story, DON'T use slicks unless you have some spare parts or alot of doe

By the way, turbos are built into the exhaust manifold, aka exhaust side, so NOT an easy swap.
But then again, it has been done on this board, just not by me

meh, I don't see the point. With a tune, the car will put down high 500s and like 750lb ft of torque. Seems kinda pointless to shoot for more when the car will already light up the tires through 3rd gear.Originally Posted by classyS

MB/AMG disagrees about the transmission and puts that torque limiter stuff in place. Originally Posted by MRAMG1

Obviously they have different longevity standards than a lot of private owners, but at some point, you are going to start going through clutch packs and bands.

I beg to disagree.Originally Posted by Oliverk

Our tranny is the SAME one in Maybachs, and other HIGHER HP cars. I have not heard of a single failure in the last 3 years, and some here are REALLY pushing the limit, IMHO.
I think that the TL's were put in place to save other parts that I mentioned as these DO break, when one starts to tinker or use sticky rubber.
Amahd had a theory that if you use REAL slicks, aka wrinkle wall tires, that they would absorb the drive line shock better than a stiff walled DR. I believe him, as he has snapped many half shafts in his quest for 10's.
Do you know of ANY tranny failures

I have heard of only one tranny failure but I am sure that there are others. On the E V-12 swap that V-12 Godspeed had made his tranny started slipping after a limited amount of use. He has since replaced the tranny with beefier internals, etc. to handle the extra torque and hp of his setup.

With upgraded turbos depending on size yes the tranny will give way, and yes there have been trannies that have gone bye bye

Guess what, the S65 engine make SUBSTANTIAL more TQ than the 600

Do you always have to be like this, or was it a birth defect

Firstly, the OP was discussing tuned s600s, which make far more than the stock 590lb ft and more in line with the 738lb ft made by the s65.
Now adding upgraded turbos and other stuff, and you start to exceed the torque figures of the s65. Mercedes limited the S65 to the level of torque it provides in the showroom. I don't think they did that just for giggles.
Could it last? sure. Will it likely wear out more quickly? most likely. Could it go poof? sure.
I'm not sure why you think otherwise.
