I'm about to pick up a 2002 s600 that was in storage for 2 years.. suggestions?
The 2002 12-cylinders are also leak prone and can be very expensive to own and repair/maintain. Think seriously about if you have the budget to keep the car in operating condition AFTER you buy it, because buying it is only the first part of your ownership costs.
Of course, if might be a great car, and some are pretty reliable. But you should find out its condition before you buy it.

quote=13bArtillery107 It has about 70k miles (NOT MORE BECAUSE IT WAS ALWAYS ON A LIFT IN A SERVICEBAY OR OTHERWISE MAROONED)...
...and was executive owned (WHAT A GLUTTON WOULD NEED TO BE TO AFFORD TO RUN AN '02GEN 600 FOR MORE THAN SIX MILES)...
...It's in showroom condition and mint (BECAUSE IT COULD ONLY BE BARELY USED).
...BUT it was in storage for the last 2 years (AFTER SUMMARILY RENDERING A WHOLISTIC A$$RAPING TO THE OWNER'S TANGIBLE NET WORTH TO OBLIVION AND BEYOND)...
...and will probably need a tuneup (HEH, YEAH "PROBABLY" - AT 70K 2yrs AGO IT PROB NEEDED 'EVERYTHING' HENCE WHY IT SAT - AND NOW NEEDS 5x AS MUCH FROM SITTING... OH JOY!)...
...What all do you reccomend me purchasing for it? (COFFIN)...
...Tuneup wise ofcourse. I'm not looking for mods here. (YOU WON'T BE - YOU'LL BE LOOKING FOR A THERAPIST TO TALK YOU DOWN FROM THE LEDGE / NOOSE) [/quote
just sayin 8-)
bs aside, I think those are fantastic cars... that have fantastic problems unfortunately... it's a shame

FYI for the OP, I bought a 2004 S600 (which are actually more reliable than the 2002 S600) that had been sitting for a while, with 65K miles.
So far I've put $12K into it to get it to 99.9%. And that's at my wholesale prices and swapping parts from other cars...if you went to a Benz dealer to do what I did, you'd spend $22K+.
THAT'S the kind of pain the wrong car can inflict upon your existence. Too bad mine is priced out of your budget most likely....I just did EVERYTHING that needs ot be done from 60K to 100K. There's nothing left to do (except steal the Brabus steering wheel off of it, hacksaw it in half, and send it to Sgt. Schultz.....bah ha ha ha ha!).

Run as far away as you can from it.
If you are cool with that idea, so be it. But before you dive in, be prepared my friend.
I just bought a 2003 S600 which should be much better then 2000-2002 quality wise.
I have the car almost one month but I still see it need repair here and there. Fortunately I can handle the car by myself otherwise $5000 should have been gone. And if I send it to dealer to make it 99.9% another $5000 won't be enough.
Actually when I test drove the car it ran very nice. But end up with both engine and transmission need operation.
And a car was in storage that long is very sceptical. Don't hope it is in good shape. Reality may turn every worry into life. And you may not able to afford it.
As I told another member who is looking for a S600: If you can handle the car by yourself buy a 2003- S600 will be a good idea.
But if you need dealer to maintain the car you'd better get a CPO. You pay it earlier or pay it later.
They are nice car indeed, cost is nice as well.
If you still think it is good then be very cautious. Check history, test drive, inspection...
Although we don't have chance to check the car like you but most of the chance it will bite you in the future especially you don't understand the car deep in side.
I created 2 threads for my 2003 S600 and you could use them as a reference:

Good luck.

If you absolutely must have a 600, take your time and find a 2003+. Not only will it be much faster and nicer inside, but it will generally be more reliable.
Someone here recently posted their '03 600 w/ like 75k mi for sale for like $18k.
Just was @ my bud's shop a few min's ago, he's got a beautiful blk/blk '04 S55 with like 90k for $22k.
Lots of options out there... do not buy a cheap S-Class 8-/... take your time, don't rush...
