Does anyone done or have DIY on a transmission oil change? with new filter and gasket? and what type of transmission oil does it take and how many quarts?

If you dont have the location to do the absolute messy job, have it done in the shop. First you need to open oil drain screw, afterwards remove the oil pan, to swap the filter. oil dripping elsewhere. Swap filter and put back the oil pan, and refill. How much???? Basically you have to measure how much was drained, because normally you only drain ~50% the rest remains in the transmission. The oil type you need to ask the MB dealer since they have the spec. Maybe you can find the spec. elsewhere to buy the right product. Unfortunately the transmission has no level stick. so to me a typical shop job, also due to the warranty

The 03 still has the 5spd. The W210's have the same trans. There are some great writeups on benzworld.com in the 210 on this tranny. I believe just a pan drop and filter change is approx. 4.5 qts. If you just pull the plug and drain it's 3qts. I did the job a couple months ago when I was new to the W220 and it was a very easy job. If you don't rush through you won't make a mess anywhere. You need to change your plug while you are in there.
