I found a 2000 S500 to buy and the owner says all of each of the doors controls do not work, windows, seats etc and the dealer told him it needs two relays, and the parts are about $100 each.
Does this make sense and seem to be accurate?
I need to move on this car today/first thing in the morning so any thoughts or advice would be great, thanks!

He is selling it for his passed uncle, he has $1,200 in recent reciepts from Mercedes and he said he was quoted $100 per relay for parts and it also needs a pin on the passenger side rear sway bar?
Does the relay make sense like he says?

I think any newbie to W220s should avoid the '00-'02 models, and even hardened veterans should avoid ones with known problems, there's enough unknowns to potentially contend with!
There are enough S500s out there that you should certainly, without question avoid ones with known issues!

I agree - '00 to '02 are S500 to avoid - rust plus other new model issues. If you'd be interested in an'03 S500 4Matic - all sorted out - at a good price, let me know. I'm interested in moving to an R500

I would tell the guy to get it fixed unless you are willing to accept his word. No one can tell w/o looking at the car and diagnosing the problem(s). Does he have a written estimate from the dealer? I could be wrong but I don't think MB stealers do any free diagnostic work. Therefore there should be an invoice with a repair estimate.Originally Posted by windycityxx

could you spend $100 each for two relays at a MB dealership? the answer is yes. but it dosent sound accurate that two circuits with one relay each would fail simultaneous and control so many functions. id say the SA probably through a wild guess at it while the previous owner drove through the service area and when he said we will have to "take a look at it" he layed rubber and split. you cant estimate low or rarely on the money when it comes to repairing a MB.

tell him buy them and if that repairs it you'll pay him back since it seems like you really want this car.
