Because its one of the best luxury cars in the world, Ive had Jags and Caddies and Lincolns, time for Benz flagship.
Paid only $5400. Insane deal for an originally six figure car.
Used Bentleys Maybach Rolls and Maseratis are $40-120k and repairs are more frequent and even more insane.
The only car Id want more than this is something like a Maybach, Bentley RR or Maserati. I probably will get one, but probably wont be as happy as I am with the w220.

1. Shoehorning my son into his rear-facing child seat in the back of my CLS550 was getting tiresome (roofline's too low), so I wanted a bigger, relatively inexpensive, but still pristine, MB. I also always loved the looks of the 220, inside and out. I still remember the first time I saw a photo of the car in a magazine's coverage of whatever auto show where it was revealed. It was pretty revolutionary at the time, and I think it is still a very clean, elegant, timeless, and well-proportioned design.
2. I didn't consider any other cars. I already had a CLS550, so an E550 was out. The E63 was too expensive, and I drove an E55 once upon a time and didn't fall in love with it. I was too scared of the running costs on an S55 or S600, so they were out. I thought an S430 would be too anemic, so it was out too.
3. I paid $27,000 for the car in October 2011. The car was in immaculate condition with 58,000 miles. But, it had some deferred maintenance that needed to be done. The tires were shot (new Bridgestones were $1,200 mounted and balanced, I think). Three of the AMG wheels were slightly bent (new replica wheels were $800). The steering wheel was a disaster (new, thicker wood wheel was around $900 installed, I think). New rotors and ceramic pads all around were around $1,200 installed, I think. New door handle light bulbs were around $150 installed. Tinting and detailing was probably around $350. So, that's around $31,500 (more than I was intending to spend), but I'm hoping the car may not need anything for a couple years.
4. I actually love my car and intend on keeping it for a while, even though I often get the urge to get a better driver's car, something with better handling, steering, throttle response, etc. Mostly, when I'm watching Top Gear, I think I need an E63, CTS-V, M3, M5, or some such other beast whose *** I can hang out with huge clouds of smoke all over town. Then, I remember I'm a grown-up and realize that all I do is drive to work, take my son to and from daycare, and run errands, so the S500 probably suits my needs perfectly. I may keep the S500 until prices on turbo 221s come down enough, which I am hoping won't be too long with the release of the next-gen. car coming soon.

2000 mercedes benz s430
Good stuff here guys. Its interesting to me to see how many people here actually paid realistic prices for there cars and not only when they plummeted in price like I did. I thought it would be the other way around where most people payed like 13k or less.
