passenger mirror dip-down in Reverse - not working

Soas to fully display my ignoramus this morning, I figured I'd toss another motzaball of a stoooopid Q out here for your general bemusement.

I cannot for the life of me get the passenger mirror to program to dip down during Reverse. LOVE that feature.

RTFM (read the friggin manual), did the programming procedure - nothing.

STOOPID MB... Audi, you simply leave the mirror selector in the "passenger" side and that feature was activated. Granted, you couldn't 'tailor' the tilt but who cares!? Least it worked 8-/.

Anyone care to shed some insight on my ineptitude (er, 'this' ineptitiude, not general - you wouldn't have enough time / energy)?...

Do you have the auto dip feature turned on in the menu?
When you programmed it, did the mirror move when you hit the M button?

Make sure the passenger side mirror is selected as if you were to adjust it.

Hmmm, I've only seen in the menu the choice to have the mirrors fold - not dip. You sure about that? Manual references the programming procedure.

the mirror did not move when I hit "M"

And yes Steve, I do have the passenger mirror selected - silly.

Geez!

I am the ignoramus Paul, not you, I thought my right mirror had a crazy malfunction!

Of course I blame the manual, it is a nuisance to page forward/backward endlessly.
I hope you find the solution soon.

Try this Sgt.

This is how I did it when I first bought the car, only two steps: Turn On the rear mirror parking feature and Storing, programing the mirror position.

Turn on the feature
1) Ignition On, car in park, doors closed.
2) Use steering wheel menu control buttons go to setting, use a combination of up,down and +,- buttons to go to convenience submenu(here you can also setup easy entry/exit,auto fold in exterior rear mirrors, key dependency,etc.....) use +,- buttons to select(turn On or Off)mirror parking feature.

Storing mirror position
1) Press down passenger-side rear view mirror button
2) Use the 4 way adjustment switch on driver's door to adjust passenger-side mirror in and down a little or any position you feel comfortable with so that you can see the rear fender and the curb when parking in reverse.
3) Press memory button M
4) Very Important, Within 3 seconds, press the Down Arrow on the 4 way adjustment switch as if you want to adjust the mirror down.
5) The parking position is stored if the mirror does not move down.
6) If the mirror does move down, repeat steps 1to 4

To activate and confirm it's working properly

1) Ignition on,press passenger-side mirror button down, mirror dips when shift into reverse.
2) Drive faster than 5 mph, it should return to it's preset driving position
3) Press driver side mirror button will return to it's original preset driving position immediately.
4) Eight to twelve seconds after shifter is out of the Reverse will return mirror back to it's preset.

***** NOTE *****
I am sorry I only have one key so I don't know or can't say when a second driver or second smart key is used will get the same result.

Mike

thanks Mike

well, my "convenience" menu in the dash display DOES NOT contain "mirror parking" feature - only fold mirrors and easy access (steering wheel / seat)... that is IT

seems my problem lies there

Mmmmmm, Strange, I thought all our 220 has this feature? anyway I just double checked the steps on my 04 and sitting inside the car as I type.

Let's try it again. Go to setting....
use up button, I saw the screen shows Inst. Clus, Lighting, Vehicle, Convenience.-------->move +,- down to select Convenience,
Press up button----->setting key-Dependent
Press up-------------->easy-entry
Press up-------------->Mirror Setting when Parking.(Strange you don't have this)
Press up-------------->Fold in when parking
Press up-------------->Settings Reset with R-Button for 3 Sec.
Press up-------------->Goes back to setting and cycles around.

Sgt. you said you only have Fold Mirror and Easy-Entry but how about Key-Dependent? two out of four? How about try to hit the Up button repeatedly, let it cycle through the menu a few times

I am having issue with Tire Pressure Warning not displayed on the screen myself and sitting here playing with it, Good luck. talk later.

Mike

The mirror dip and multiple key identification option does not exist on some 220s. Mine (2006) does not have it show up in the instrument cluster, therefore you can't even turn on the mirror dip function. Yes, it's in the manual, but no, that menu item is not there.

I've read here in some very old threads that adding that function back into the cluster is done by 'recoding the instrument cluster'. I don't really know what that is, and neither did anyone else.

Neither my independant or the dealer could figure it out. The official response from HQ was that 'this feature was discontinued' for the 06 model year. Although that does not make any sense, so it is.

Mirror dip feature

I can confirm it does exist in the 06 s600. I recently purchased one and when I first bought it that feature was working. I reset the features and haven't been able to get it to work since. Anyone find any working solutions.

When you want to use this feature there is a button on the driver's side door that controls the manual movement of both mirrors (left to right, up and down).

I had the same problem you are having but discovered that in order for this feature to work properly the button for the passenger side mirror must be pushed in prior to the car being put in reverse. If the driver's side mirror button is pushed in the reverse feature will not work.

All of this info is assuming that you have the feature pre-programmed via dash display.

I believe there is something to this!

My S600 does NOT offer any options other than " mirror fold when in park", but that function does does not work automatically, only when selected on the door panel.

Other function like easy entry works when selecting on the stalk.

I think the culprit here is that on my car the instrument cluster was replaced under the warranty campaign (before I got the car), and was not recoded or programmed correctly, or, programmed incompletely.

My friend's 2002 S430 does not have the mirror dipping option on the "convenience" menu - but the mirror dips in reverse. This irritates his wife when she reverses into the garage, so we will try pushing the button selecting the driver's mirror to see if that stops the dipping. My 2003 S430 does have the mirror option on the menu.

The option also bothered me Wallyp because I always back into my garage. That is how I kind of discovered how the thing works. However, when I am backing into a parking space it is quite handy. Should work for you friend's wife also.

I accidentally have the best of both worlds. Apparently, the switch on the gearshift lever is very slightly maladjusted, and when I put the lever in Reverse, the backup lights don't come on, and the mirror doesn't dip. This is good for almost all of my day-time driving. When I want the lights or the mirror dip, moving the lever 1/16" further gives me both.
