w220 as first car

yo guys

Before I made a thread about getting a w210 but as I couldnt find any good ones local I found this s320 2000 right next to me. I dont really like the stock looks of the 1999-2002 (i think it was, before facelift) You know when the lights are not see-through etc? So if I buy this car I am gonna change both front and tail lights, and an amg front bumper. The question is, will it look the same as f.ex 2004 s55? In exterior, I know interior has changed also but it doesnt look too bad on this one.

I want it to look like this, examples:

1
2
3
4

I hope you all know what I mean. Anything else that needs to be changed? Rear bumper and exhaust I'll change later, gonna get frontbumper and lights first.

LINK to the car

edit: forgot mirror light blinkers also BUT it doesnt look like the car have xenon lights? Does this make it look alot worse than the s55's that have it?
edit2: It says that the colour is black. Doesnt it look a little blueish? I'm going on vacation for 2weeks tomorrow so cant go look at the car until I get home, but I want my car to look like real black only. Is it only the bad pics that make it look blue?

the front end of the update models will not swap directly on the older one , you either need to change the hood and everything, or trim the bumpers

you will spend a few thousand dollars updating the front and rear, better to just buy a newer model

very few s classes with that in norway, and half the population of new york there isnt a wide range to choose from. anyway, a few thousand usd? i quickly found original facelifted front and rear lights for about 1k usd total. how expensive is the amg bumper? couldnt find any here just now but maybe ebay has some? wouldnt it be best to find the cheapest and just paint it black like the car? dont mind if its been used aslong as its in good condition

edit: found 99-02 frontbumper here in norway for exactly 1k usd, but it doesnt look as good as the 03+ is it smaller or what?:p

Mercedes
lights $1000
bumper $500
hood $500
labor and paint $1000

thats $3000 if you want to update to the more modern look

or if you just want to modify the bumper without changing the hood, $300-500 extra labor

other people have posted the differences in the newer years before, the bumper is different where it meets the hood at the sides of the grille on the updated cars.

thanks for your inputs guys, i will have to think about all this. cars in the us are extremely cheap compared to here, thats why this may sound weird for you. but i will probably just get the 99-02 amg bumper if it fits easily with no extra work. i can just forget to find a similar car from 03+ with this price, condition and location.

could anyone post some pics of the pre-facelift amg cars? i guess its the second best looking bumper for the w220?

Oliver and I rarely agree, but this time I agree it is not a good idea to put on an updated front end on your car, unless yours is damaged or you work in the autobody business and get parts and labor wholesale.

It makes no financial sense. Enjoy that car for what it is.

yes a 99-02 bumper should fit a 99-02 w220 as an easy bolt on swap with no problems

If you're set on getting the car and want to facelift it, I recommend you just go on ebay and get the depo facelifted headlights and taillights if you cannot find original parts for cheaper. Just leave it at that for now until you find the rest of the body panels.

The suspension is a lot mushier than the W210 because of airmatic and the steering is lighter. The weight isn't too dramatic, but its definitely heavier and doesn't handle as nice.
