Did you have this noise?

Recently I noticed a new and annoying noise generated by my S430 2002.

It is a very deep sounding vibration coming up when the engine revs over 1500.

No need for the car to run, it is the same when I stop the car, put the gear in N and rev up the engine.

The higher the revolution the more prominent is the vibration.
The seat and the steering wheel slightly picks it up too.

I checked all the pullies, no wobbling, all seem tight.
Opening the hood I'm not getting any hint to the source, actually I hardly hear it.

Exhaust is not thundering, looks and sounds flawless.

Maybe some of you have a clue where to look at. I have been searching the forum quite a while, found nothing related.

Thanks for any input.

Thanks for the tip.
I have an appointment to lift the car so I can check all the mounts.
In a few days we will know.

I would also check the harmonic balancer. If my memory serves my right there was a recall years ago on my S500 balancer. Good luck.

Here is the result: all three mounts had to be changed.

Thanks for the good advice.
Everything under the belt was checked including the harmonic balancer, all OK.

This time I gave up the good habit of DIY and let the dealer's service do it :$1,350.00.
I needed the fix fast, it requires lift, and my mechanic could not squize me in before next week. If I waited for him I could probably save about 3- 4 hundreds with cheaper parts from AutohausAZ, but my guy estimated 9-10 hours labor, the dealership did and charged 7 hours.

Feels like a new car all over again huh. Its one of those times you really get a "seat of the pants" feel for where your money went, when you replace the engine and trans mounts in these cars. (or any benz for that matter)
