Can not refill my transmission

I need to change my transmision filter on my 06 s430.I have some knowledge of the process except how to put the fluid back I was told you have to pump it in with a machine because I have no filler tube, anyone know
another way?

Look in the engine compartment, right rear side, for a black tube with a red plastic cap.

Our cars don't have a transmission dipstick - Mercedes considers that a tool, and also (wrongly) said that the transmission was "filled for life".

You have to remove the plastic cap (usually breaking it in the process) to add fluid, and have to buy or make a dipstick to check the fluid level. They are available on eBay, and are easy to make.

The best deal that I know of on MB-approved fluid is Shell ATF 134. You may have to find a Shell distributor - usually costs $5-6/quart.

it's not something i would advise you to risk doing yourself...you need mb star diag computer to check the fluid level when the transmission is at the proper temperature etc etc...and yes you do need a pump with special fittings to properly put the fluid back into the transmission.

I am not at all trying to start anything BUT this information maybe a bit misleading. I changed my filter and fluid myself without Star or a "pump with special fittings". It is a very easy job really. The only thing you need really is the dipstick which can be purchased. My 2 cents.

Agreed, it's not that hard. First thing I did with all my vehicles was to snap the trans cap lock off to at least check the condition of the supposedly "sealed for life" fluid. Amazon and many other online places have the 722.6 dipstick with proper measurement indicators for both cold and hot levels, filter and gasket sets, control unit plug, conductor plate, as well as replacement caps and locks - although I never replace the lock so I can access it regularly. Fuchs also makes an approved fluid (you can search fluid types ad nauseum). Also, black cap with black tab lock usually indicates original seal from factory, while red or yellow lock indicates a replacecement. I have a Star C4 das/xentry and while I use it to check for errors and to reset the shift adaptation, I've never used it for level checks (not saying you can't or shouldn't, just that I never have).

Since the dipstick tool is labeled in mm (no "full" mark), I would first take a reading prior to draining the old fluid, so to give you a reference point.
Just my $.02.

Gentlemen, lets be clear here. The OP has the 722.9 7 speed G-Tronic, not the well known, and more end user serviceable 722.6 5 speed.

The 722.9 does require some more sophisticated filling and measuring equipment.

i was assuming he has the 7 speed g-tronic transmission based on what he said by filling pump. the 7g tranny is a bit more complicated to do the service. i've done a few already.

My fault...I thought it had the 722.6 5-speed tranny.

My Bad. I didn't even think about the 7 speed. Sorry. I guess I had the misleading info.

You have the 722.9 transmisson (7 speed), not the 722.6 tranmission which is a 5 speed. The 722.9 is harder to do a tranmission service on. It does require special tools and pumps to pump the fluid back into the car, as well as Star system to do this after it reaches a certain temperature.
