hi my name is Mike and i am picking up my first Mercedes this weekend, its an 01 S55 with 49k.

a little about myself im coming from the Lexus world and have owned 99 GS300, 01 GS300, 01 LS430, 02 SC430, and my current car is a 99 LS400. i love Lexus and how easy it is to work on but ive always wanted an AMG Benz so when the chance came i jumped on it.

im really looking forward to enjoying my new car and read the pre owned and encyclopedia stickies along with other threads and the only thing im concerned with is the ABC. i called Mercedes customer service and there are no open recalls for this car and the previous owner said he just recently had the suspension serviced.

is there anything else i should look for or have serviced when i pick it up with the miles it has?

thanks for reading this long intro!

Good luck on your new purchase and welcome to the family. A couple of things you might want to check out and see if they have been replaced. Those items are the gear shift (stuck in park problem) and the infamous instrument cluster that was previously recalled.

Another common problem is the crank position sensor

They Are about $50-70, or as low as $15 on eBay . You don't need to change it now, but I keep an extra in the glovebox just in case you get stranded someday ,

The cluster were not recalled , if there was a recall you can get it fixed free for life

but there is a ten year extended warranty on them , you are outside the 10 year warranty extension . I have heard of cheap cluster repair services as low as $150 if you ever need It, search the forums
