CONFIRMING A 2014 NAV MAP DISC UPDATE FOR THE '04-'06 W220
New Information (confirming the there IS a 2014 nav DVD update for the '04-'06 W220 and possibly the MY04-’06 CL Class and MY05-’08 SLK and SL Classes). All of those models have the NTG1 (COMAND 2.0), and should be able to use the DVD described below.
The NavTeq site (navigation.com, aka HERE) erroneously shows 2011 nav update DVD v.10.0 being the last one for the '04-'06 W220. This is absolutely wrong. While neither the disc nor the box referenced the '04-'06 W220, I bought the 2014 update below because it referenced ALL the other models that had shared the earlier discs for the W220. The 2014 update labels added models of the Maybach but omit the S-Class. I inserted the disc, it went through a very brief update sequence, and became available. All features work on it in my car. Photos of the 2014 DVD and box are below, and more are at post #3, http://www.benzworld.org/forums/w220...ml#post9180713.
Some confusion factors you may need to work through with your dealer and the NavTeq (Navigation.com) website:
1. If you enter navigation.com with data related to the '04-'06 W220, you will be taken to a page showing the latest update as being 2011 update v.10. THIS IS INACCURATE.
2. If you enter the navigation.com site with data indicating any of the other models - such as the applicable years of the E, SLK, CLS or Maybach, you will be taken to a listing for the 2014 v.13 DVD. THIS IS ALSO THE DISC FOR THE '04-'06 W220 although the label on the disc or on the box does not say so.
3. I contacted Navteq (navigation.com) approximately by email to query the discrepancy; after 30 hours at the time of this post they have not responded.
4. The part numbers for the 2014 nav DVD for North America, including the U.S., Canada, Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands is Version 2014 part numbers BQ 6 46 0315 and A211 827 49 65. Navigation .com describes it as "2014 Mercedes-Benz NTG1 DVD v.13.0" (but Not on the W220 page). Note: the COMAND system for the '04-'06 W220 IS NTG1. In another departure for NavTeq, they DO show the MB part number for the DVD (in the past they have not).
5. My dealership queried NavTeq directly again this morning, and fed them the information above. NavTeq professed no knowledge (but it was the warehouse she was talking to). I asked her to bring out a disc for the '05 E-Class; it was of course the disc pictured below. Essentially, NavTeq mis-designated the 2014 disc, and as a result its website, the disc label, and the box description are incorrect, as was their failure to notify dealerships of an update for the W220.
6. If you have not updated your nav maps in a while, see post #12 at http://www.benzworld.org/forums/audi...de-mode-2.html - I had no problem going from the 2011 v.10 to the 2014 v.13, but can't speak for earlier discs.
You may click on the images below to enlarge them. Again, more pics of what I bought, in case you run into someone at a dealership who is incredulous (because they are stuck with a bunch of outdated 2011 discs that NavTeq failed to notify them to return for credit) are at post #3, http://www.benzworld.org/forums/w220...ml#post9180713.

I have an '06 S350. I found a source for that V13.0 BQ 6 46 0315 DVD @ ~$110 shipped.
I researched this issue as much as I could, and yet couldn't determine @ a 100% what's needed. My NTG1 can display ETA and total distance by pressing the INFO (top left soft button), while in nav mode, but not at the bottom of the navigation screen. I can also play MP3 CDs without any problem (there's also a soft button option named MP3...).
Reading through the instructions on message #12 by Waren @ http://www.benzworld.org/forums/audi...de-mode-2.html , I tried my dealer: W211 589 15 20 20 is ~$450 & W211 589 14 20 20 is over $800...
I failed finding the $12-28 everyone's mentioned.
I'm in Southern California. If anyone here has those CDs, I'm willing to either drop by anywhere San Diego to S. Barbara to Riverside, as buying them...

Works
I have the same disc (or the one right after it) for my W211 and it works fine in my 04 W220. At first it gave me an error, but I just took it out, put it back in and it works fine. This is great for anyone who happens to have both cars.

NavTeq/Navigation.com/HERE now sends one to the Mercedes website at http://mb.navigation.com/home/en_US/MBNA/USD for map updates. The Mercedes site shows a "2015 Mercedes-Benz NTG1 DVD V14.0 Part number T1000-22758," for the E-class and others as discussed in post 1 above, and once again leaves out the W220 S-Class, listing the "current" version as V10.0.
I suspect that Mercedes has simply passed through the inaccurate information from Navigation.com, and that because it is for NTG 1 COMANDs the v14.0 disc will work in the '04-'06 S-Class. However, I no longer have my W220, so I cannot test it.
As I wrote above (and others have verified) the V13.0 DVD for the E-Class also works for the S-Class. Likely, the newer V14.0 disc will as well.
BTW, Navigation.com has removed the Mercedes logo from at least some pages on its site (see http://allthingsnav.navigation.com/a...map-and-save); I speculate that may have something to do with Mercedes partnering with Garmin for future map updates.
I tried repeatedly to get Navigation.com to update and correct the errors, and while they acknowledged with a form reply saying nothing, they have done nothing further, leading me to believe this is deliberate. In one phone conversation, the representative said "We are awaiting a decision on the S-Class update." He would not say who would be making that decision. I am done dealing with those idiots.
NOTE - QUADROBENZ CONFIRMS THAT V.14.0 for the NTG-1 system works in the '04 to '06 W220 and the '05 to '08 R230. See post 15, below.

For what its worth I own a 1999 w220 and last year updated my command to 2013 to 2014 maps.
I needed to do a software update 1st
Here's some useful info
The original disc and the update discs are CD format for my older command NOT dvd.
The original disc is marked Tele Atlas Navigation 1999-1
The software needed was on the disc with the following info.
Bosch Daimler Chrysler Comand 2.0 ECE + 2.5 ECE
Software Service -CD MY 2001 stand 07/2002
DC part W230 589 00 22 00
Once the software was loaded I was able to update to the 2013/14 maps using disc
Final update DX Bosch Maps by Tom Tom
Navigation CD- Rom for Blaupunkt DX
United Kingdom and Ireland plus Major Roads of Western Europe 2013/2014
There are 2 discs and the part number reads i201 2248
Once loaded all roads were up to date
The start up screen was a Mercedes logo with DX
And address entries were possible using postcodes US call them zip codes.
Hope this helps clear some myths up about what can or cannot be done on the older command units.

Thank you for that information, baldsparky. Clearly it applies to European CD-based nav systems.
I hope that some intrepid souls in North America who own the CD-based nav units will be able to use the information you provide; the systems are very different from the European ones, and unfortunately, the situation here is NOT a myth. MB and its partner for the North American CD sets (Navteq/Navigation.com/HERE Maps) stopped producing the CD map discs. The "C" sets are simply are not available.. Two types of CD-based nav systems, using different disc formats, were exported to North America. The early production models made prior to September, 1999, sold here as MY'00, used "C" nav systems. Later models through MY'03 used "D" nav systems. The "C" and "D" CDs were not compatible. Then, DX discs, yet a third format for the CD based systems, came out (I believe in 2005). These are supposedly backward compatible with both "C" and "D" systems, but a nav firmware update is required for some systems (I do not know just which). An updated nav system will show the Mercedes logo, together with a "DX" logo, on startup. A system that is not updated begins with the cautionary text flash screen, not the MB logo.
The latest MB CD set for North America was released in 2007; it was a DX set, dated 1/2007, MB part number BQ 6 46 0222. If it is possible to use current DX discs from a different source (such as Tom-Tom), I'm sure our North American members would like to know! PLEASE! We'll celebrate!
Until we do know more, here is what is applicable in North America (from http://whnet.com/4x4/radios.html)
0 S-Class COMAND 2.5 until 8/99, VIN to A078551: 10 CD set, "C", version 2004-1 (MB part# Q6-46-0191)
00 S-Class COMAND 2.5 from 9/99, VIN A078551 can use the "D" or "DX" CDs listed below:
01-03 S/CL 01-04 C/CLK 00-02 E 02-05 G, 10 CD set, version 2005-2, release 8/05 (MB part# Q6-46-0215)
01-03 S/CL 01-04 C/CLK 00-02 E 02-05 G, 10 CD set, version 2007-1, release 1/07 (MB part# Q6-46-0222)

Thanks for clearing those points up with reference to your end of the pond Skylaw.
I didn't mean to imply that any information regarding the command systems are in any way inaccurate as per this forum, far from it, the forum is without doubt one of the best sources of information anyone owning a Mercedes could wish for.
My reference to Myths were in relation to false or inaccurate information that I originally received from other sources.
These included main agent comments, when I initially made enquiries regarding updating my original mapping CD here in the UK.
Ie, can't be done, your systems to old, it doesn't support DX ect, ect.
None of this was true as I later found to my delight.
The only downside is that on my system it appears that my 2013/14 CD and software is no longer being updated.
Never the less I feel Updating from 1999 to 2013/14 was well worth the while, and leaves me with a far more accurate road plan.
Thanks for all the hard work and valued information those contributing to the forum provide, and please accept my apologise for any confusion or misunderstanding my "Myth" reference may have caused.
Safe motoring to all.

I have a 2006 S350 and I had the rear window replaced which has the Shark Fin antenna system located on the rear window. But ever since then my Navigation does not work correctly,it has me out in the ocean, any ideas what to do please?
#13
Yes, I called them and they said they would now. Had to get my insurance company to finally tell them too!! We will see how it goes. Thanks for the reply. I'll let you know if they actually fix it.
#14
I believe there are two reception antennas, one is the shark fin the other behind the rear bumper.
Hopefully it will be a simple re calibration problem.
Best of luck to you getting it sorted.

I know mines a much older 1999 set up but the software CD I needed to install required a proper set up procedure which I cant remember accurately now.
I do know it took 3 attempts to get the new software installed and I was bricking it in case I messed my command up.
3rd time lucky, other than everything was in German so needed to translate to english via google to get into the menu's and change to English and miles vs kilometers ect.

No Joy
Tried 10 times to load v14 into my '05 S55 - same error each time. Each attempt started and ended at the same point. The software starts to load for a second or two, then aborts and gives a non-descriptive message - "Navigation Cannot Be Activated. An Error Has Occurred." It's as if the COMAND unit is looking for a file or parameter on the DVD, but doesn't find it. For reference, the v14 DVD has 8 files, no folders.
My old v10 disk loads perfectly, each time. This suggests no hardware issues. Nevertheless, I poked around with XENTRY, hoping to find something obvious, but nothing seemed out of the ordinary.
Haven't given up but wanted to let folks know there is one '05 W220 that v14 doesn't seem to load into. Any and all input is appreciated.
Cheers,
Jeff

I did not upgrade directly from v10 to v14 but I doubt that would have any effect on the operability of the v14 disc. I do have a replacement head unit since the original one failed about 3 years ago. It is an identical factory replacement W220 unit so that should not make any difference.
