Haven't changed oil in about a year

Hey all,
Our 01 S500 has only had it's oil changed once in the two years of ownership. Right now, it's got about 23,000 miles on it and FSS reports about another 700 before B service.

I checked the oil to make sure it's not black or anything and it's still pretty good, even for the length of time it hasn't been changed.

This won't cause damage to the engine right?... not having changed the oil for a while (I think about a year now) because this car is really just driven on weekends or short trips once in a while.

Thanks

Yea, I wouldn't either, but I checked the oil and it was fine. Not thick and black, but runny and a good light-mid brown color...

I had my oil changed at the dealership. Afterwards I asked if I should have it done every 3,000 miles and if I'm not mistaken I believe he told me I only need to have it changed every $8,000 miles?

You have $8,000 oil changes Armani S500?!

I just go with the FSS, plus dad doesn't want me changing it anymore then what Mercedes reccomends. Personally at first I felt very very touchy of having it go even more than 6K miles without a change, but we're at 15k now with only one change and so far so good.

I've never had a problem with following the FSS system. The new synthetic oils are great.

I think it's contributed to both.

MB also has twice the oil capacity of normal cars. With 8 qts, the oil doesn't get as dirty as fast.

Synthetic oil is a must for newer MBs.

With 700 mi, you should just change it. The FSS tracks mileage as well as time. After about a year, it will tell you to replace the oil by giving you the number of days left instead of miles. If your car isn't driven often, water gets condensated in the engine block and that dilutes the oil and causes rust. Normally, condensation is burnt off by frequent engine starts.

I have a S55 that after 6 months has gone only 4800 miles. The computer shows a service in 5800 or miles. I guess I'm from the old school of oil changes as I went in and just paid to have the oil and filter changed. $80 but, for me, worth the peace of mind. I know the synthetic oils are supposed to be able to go farther but I just can't see not changing oil after a time of 6 months. If I was you I'd pay and have the oil changed. Nothing but Mobile One as MB instructs
