Shifter gets stuck in Drive/Neutral?? SOLVED!!!
Hello everyone! My 2003 S430's shifter keeps getting stuck in Drive/Neutral. It won't shift beyond Neutral. Takes about 20-30 tries to actually move it into the other gears. Anyone know that happened? Couple weeks ago the shifter will only shift to Park/Reverse on the second Neutral/Drive movement.
Let me explain ^
While in Drive.
Shift to Neutral
Back to Drive.
Now it will shift to other gears.
Two weeks later...
While in Drive
Shift to Neutral
Stuck between Neutral and Drive.
Takes many many tries to move it into any other gears.
Any help will be appreciated, Thanks!

Okay got it! There is a leaf spring inside the shifter unit, it has unwrapped it self and the arm the spring was supposed to act upon, was in the locked position so the shifter wont shift out of neutral/drive. Sorry i didn't take any pictures, but you should see the spring when you take the shifter apart.

I'm not at all familiar with the C-class, but on the W220s there is a plastic arm inside the shifter that keeps the lever from moving from PARK unless you apply the brakes. The arm eventually breaks and won't allow shifter movement. Repair consists of replacing the arm with an aluminum version, or just removing it (at which point, the shift lever can be moved from PARK without holding the brake pedal).
Posting your problem in the proper forum will probably get you the answer for your car.

What car is having the problems? This is the W220 Forum, for 1999-2005 S-Class sedans. Very few, if any, of our members will know anything about a 2010 C300, if that is your car.
