s350 accelerator input problem with CEL

I was driving around today with no problems and then all of a sudden the accelerator pedal stopped behaving like it should.

I would press on the gas and nothing would happen but after a few seconds it would start accelerating really slowly and stop again.

No long after, my CEL came on. This has happened to me in the past ( over a year ago) but it went away on its own.

I made sure nothing was obstructing the air intake so my only guess is it might be a bad pedal or maybe dirty fuel that go sucked in or maybe a contaminated MAF sensor.

I was told to replace the pedal about 2 years ago since it last happened but I didnt because it went away on its own.

Let me know what you guys think this might be.

Thanks!

Did you read the fault codes when the CEL came on?

Wouldn't I need a scanner for that? No error message appeared on the screen so I wouldn't know.

Is it really just a matter of changing the gas pedal?

If you live in the USA just go to any AutoZone or Advance Auto and they will read the codes for you. Just write them down and post. If the CEL came on then it most likely posted some type of fault codes.

I removed and cleaned the contacts on the gas pedal as well as the MAF sensor and disconnected the battery for a few hours and now the problem has gone away. So glad it was an easy DIY fix.

Disconnecting the battery for more than 30 minutes will clear the CEL codes. If they come back have them scanned and post here.
