ABC - front two corners lopsided

Greetings all. I take it as a sign of pride I've only had to post once during my tenure as a member here--I like the search function!

That being said, one problem I haven't seen regards the ABC suspension (perhaps because there are so many problems to be had with it?). When the car is on level ground, running or not, the front left sits about 1.5 inches higher. Granted the car has some other ABC issues such as the R side sometimes dropping overnight, but I can't imagine that is impacting this.

It's been this way for the 9 months I've owned the car. My friend has a carsoft system which can "calibrate" the suspension as well as rodeo it, but we can't find anything to alter one corner at a time. A search on this speaks of raising or lowering the whole suspension (seemingly for aesthetic reasons) and doesn't address adjusting one corner at a time.

Any ideas what I can do? The car raises, etc. when you push the button the dash but one corner is always higher... It's driving me nuts as I've recently rebuilt the whole front suspension: control arms, torsion arms, ball joints, upper control arms, etc. The alignment place can get it aligned correctly which I'm assuming is because of this. I tried the MB dealer but they gave up on trying to align it because of this issue and the fact I didn't use MB parts (without MB parts they wouldn't diagnose ride height issue.

Lastly, and I can't imagine why this would impact anything, but I have 19" AMG wheels off a W221. Please advise.

Thanks,

David

This is speculation, not fact, but I believe that the STAR system can adjust the height of each strut individually. I know that it can do so with the Airmatic system, and can't imagine it not having that capability with ABC.

You need to plug it into a STAR system and level it. After that, perform a load adjustment and you will be all set.

Thanks guys. Does it have to be STAR to do this?

There may be other scanners that can accomplish this, but I don't know of any.

What model carsoft does your friend have? The carsoft scanners are good for reading values but to set level you need to input numerical values and I am guessing that is why it is not available on the carsoft.

I'll ask him--it's about a year old. I like it but you're right about inputting data. It seems to only tell you what's happening.

Thanks,

David

The STAR system is the only one that I know of which can get into the bowels of these cars. MB designed them that way. I'm sure somewhere out there someone has either designed a scanner that will replicate STAR or there is something really close.

Star can be used to adjust the height but is a long process that often doesn't remember the settings you adjusted to, and will revert back. I've been there done that along with others. The best way is to buy adjusting links for about $100 or so. You can then fine tune the height very easily.
If your car sags overnight you need to get the ABC blocks rebuilt. I can do this for you.
Message me if you are interested.
Cheers
