Need ignition coil replacement
Hi, all.
I am new to this forum.
I have 2005 S500 base model and 96,000 miles on it. I decided to replace spark plugs and wire set and ordered. ( Bosch 9652 iridium plugs and Bosch 09850 premium spark plugs wire set).
Do i have to replace ignition coils together?
How often does it have to be replace?

I do not think I have any problem yet.
I didn't know when I need to replace ignition coils. Like said above, I am going to replace spark plugs and wire sets next week myself and want to replace coil packs together if it is time to do cause mine car is getting close to 100K miles.

Those ignition coils will let you know when there is a problem. There are 8 of them and they are not cheap. When you replace the spark plug wires just put a small dab of the dielectric grease inside each wire. Helps the seating of the wires on the plug. It also helps if you have the special 17mm wrench. DO NOT put the grease on the plug threads.

I already ordered 'Mercedes Benz V6/V8 Spark Plug Wire Remover Installer Wrench Tool 17mm' from Amazon after reading this forum.
Is it hard to connect a wire to a plug without dielectric grease?

It's not that difficult without the dielectric grease. However, it certainly helps if you have to remove the wires in the event of a misfire or something. Whatever method you choose just make sure when the wires are inserted just push them down until you hear a click.
Incidentally, the dielectric grease if really inexpensive and you don't need one of those big tubes.
