Driver side exterior rear view mirror move when pressing memory seat button

Hey everyone,

Just like the title says, whenever I press the memory seat buttons my drivers side rear view mirror always moves completely down, showing me the ground. The seats have been reprogramed in multiple positions and always adjust flawlessly. I have tried calibrating the mirror by moving it all the way up and down while holding for 2 seconds and I'm not really sure what else to do.

Any ideas are greatly appreciated!
Thanks.

Adjust the mirror and seat to where you want it
.then press and hold the green button. While pressing green button press number 1 2 or 3 to store the new position

Thanks, Russell.

I don't have a green button, should I try the 'M' button? The seat goes where I want it, just the mirror always moves. It never seems to remember I set it.

On my '03 S430, this seems to work:
- Adjust the seat where I want it. I try to do this on a relatively long drive, as otherwise I tend to pick positions that get slightly uncomfortable after thirty minutes.
- Check and adjust precisely the interior mirror. It adjusts electrically - you just can't do it manually. It resets for each memory button.
- Check and adjust both outside mirrors. I use the now-recommended positions, where the sides of the car are just outside the field of view. This gives a better chance of seeing a vehicle in the blind spots.
- When I am satisfied with the settings, press "M", then press "1", which is my "assigned number" - I try to get my wife to go thru this same procedure, only using "2"...

Wally,
could you provide info on adjusting the inside rear view mirror?
I don't seem to have anything about this except 3 garage door remotes!

Thnx

My understanding (which may well be wrong!) is that the interior mirror adjusts for each memory position, but the only adjustment that you can make is manual.

This means that if the 6' 3" husband manually adjusts the interior mirror and then sets it with Memory Position 1, the mirror will go to his position each time that he uses his key or presses button 1.

His 5' 2" SO manually adjusts the mirror to suit her/him, and sets it with Memory Position 2. The mirror will go to that position each time the second key is used or button 2 is pressed.

If the movement required is greater than the available range in the mirror, the procedure might have to be repeated until both recorded positions are within the available range. Suppose that the first "tall" manual adjustment is done while the powered adjustment was already close to the "short" end of the available range. No problem for him. Then the "short" manual adjustment is made - but the power adjustment is already almost maxed out toward the short end. No problem for her/him. Then the tall driver gets in - and the mirror does not have enough adjustment to bring the mirror to his position. He manually adjusts and resets button 1. After this cycle is repeated a couple of times, both recorded positions will be within the available powered adjustment range, and the system works as designed.

Complicated?

You adjust the mirror, push two buttons...

It's very simple as Wally stated. Just manually adjust the rear view mirror to the position where you want it. Adjust the seat, Hold in the Memory "M" button on the drivers's door a couple of seconds and then just hold in one of the 1,2,3 buttons on the door and you are set.

If someone else drives the car they do the same thing except their choice would be 2 if you chose one.

The "complicated" part was my attempt at explaining what happens if one of two drivers manages to get the interior mirror out of its possible adjustment range for the other driver.

But - fixing that situation is still very simple. Each driver must just repeat the adjust/record procedure a couple of times each, and it should get the mirror back into the adjustment range. You don't have to know what is really happening.

Technically going out of range will trigger a position fault and then it will never program. The memory position should be able to be stored in any mirror position.
