W220 dependability

I currently have a 2004 W220 S430 base with 722.9 transmission which is currently cause a headache and a half which is very unfortunate as I really love the W220 I was wondering if the older model W220 pre 03 is more reliable than the newer W220 04 and up models because I'll just buy a older one if it is and just do the face lift

I don't think it works like that. As the cars become newer the problems go down.....

So does that mean if you got a 2016 Camaro and a 1969 Camaro both brand new 0 miles the 2016 Camaro will outlast the 1969 just because it has new technology?

That's exactly what I'm saying, just cause it's new doesn't make it better. They made changes that could have altered the dependability of the W220 after the face lift and transmission change.

In today's age new seems to be made cheaper and sold for more. And I means that goes for anything you buy today. I would say the 722.6 is more reliable than 722. Have you not fixed your starting issue yet? If I was you I would remove the sump and check the selector is fitted correctly

Remove gearbox oilpan "sump" and inspect if selector lever is in the slot

The mechanic at Mercedes took the pan down after trying to get it started to check that

As car models become newer in the cars "generation" the problems become less. Take this the 09 Audi A4's had a huge Oil consumption problem. 2013 the facelift began and know that problem is basically gone.Same thing with the Porsche Cayenne, after 06 all of them came with different coolant pipes. Car companies tweak there problems as the cars generation goes on. It seams that you like Chevys... If you like Chevys/older cars so much why don't you go out and buy one?

I hear the new Chevys have interiors like Range Rovers

Thats why a 2006 w220 is usually better then a 2000- they addressed the known problems with the early ones

Yes but changes were made in 2004 that could have created new problems that the earlier models were more reliable on

The face-lifted cars are generally recognised as being better built than the earlier cars. I've had two of each, and I wouldn't have an early car again. However the 722.9 transmission is more problematic than the 722.6.

You're arguing on Valentines night about if a face lifted car is more reliable.
Maybe you should be working on your love life instead of your car...

Valentine's night I was bolting up my torque converter, and my wife was delivering babies.

There's got to be a better joke in there somewhere.

What a life.
