2003 radio swap with 2006 radio

04-06 are different units. Dvd based navigation instead of cd. 03 was the only year that had aux cable option. Im sure the swap is possible.... i wouldnt do it lol

SL500
A new owner of 2003 SL500.
For those who have 2003 SL500 Bose audio system how does it sound?
Mine seem to be lacking in base (I have it set to 10) still weak.
I compared it to my non-Bose system from 2005 Lexus - Lexus has the "Thump/Base".
A Bose system is known for great sounds (highs and lows). This one does not have it.
Any suggestion to get the sound quality better is welcome.
BTW - Does the Bose system on SL500 come with a sub-woofer?

You have posted in the W220 Forum, which is for the 2000 - 2005 S-Class four-door sedan. You will probably get quicker and more meaningful responses in the proper forum.
The 2003 S500 Bose system does have a subwoofer mounted under the rear window. Bass is adequate - I keep mine on zero or +one.

Bose setup
I found with Bose setup going to sound menu and then fix sound and going past base, treble etc and further down it had small, medium etc choose large. It sets the sound into almost a theatre mode. Like it’s coming from outside car. Then far more base at zero and overall way better. Hope that helps.

Depending on production date (get and understand the 'build sheet' for your car. Call Customer Support and ask for it. ) your car has either analog (DB2)' or digital (MOST) systems.
The DB2 versions uses the CAN to communicate between components to turn them on/off, pass signals and data, etc at rather slow data rates. The MOST systems have much faster digital data rates (and are not compatible with analog versions.) You would have to rewire the entire system to install a MOST system in a car equipped with DB2 systems, as well as changing all the systems components. It is not a trivial undertaking like simply swapping the 'head unit.'

Looking for a knowledgable installer to do something like this in my 2003. I am west of Philly but would drive 2+ hours to find someone who knows what they are doing. I am NOT a do it yourselfer. Any eastern PA installer reccos? MD? NJ?

video transmitter
I put an aftermarket stereo in my wife's SLK55 and the hardest part was stringing the video cable to avoid being cut by the trunk parts. I found a vwifi video transmitter that doesn't require any video wire. Just attach the transmitter to the camera and the receiver to the radio and boom it's video. The only issue for me was the camera had its own steering lines and the car had sterring lines according to the steering whel position (curved lines on display). It was nt very expensive and made for an easy job.
