I need both coil packs ? What options do I have ?

Hi,

I've had a random misfire for a year or so on 1-6, 7 & 11. But a few weeks ago, it failed completely. It wont start now at all.

Garage says both coil packs have gone. 1-6 is completely dead and 7 & 11 are random.

I think I have two choices; buy them new from MB (I was quoted £1050+VAT each), or send them to http://www.v12icpack.com/ for a rebuild ?

I've already replaced the voltage amplifier with a new MB one, a complete set of plugs, and a crank position sensor, but that made jack all different.

The third option is flog the car as is, in a failed state.

Anyone got any other ideas ? Or knows someone who wants a 2004 S600L with two failed coil packs ?
:-(

Thanks.

Jon.

rebuilt coil packs are just fine, or, get cheaper ones from a wrecking and gamble.

I would also suggest opting for a rebuild since you already done the other stuff such as replacing voltage transformer, plugs, crank sensor, etc. That'll be your cheapest option. Should have the car running for some time. You wont get much by selling these cars especially in a failed state with two dead coilpacks. They are fairly cheap even running.

If I was you, I would pickup new ones for $1000 then sell old ones for ~$200. The down time would be minimum and it's not much more than $700 repair job.

I haven't used them....yet...., but watching the guys videos, he seems like he knows his stuff and is also an enthusiast. If/when I have problems with mine, I plan on using this guy.
