Trunk not latching to second position

Hey guys yesterday we replaced my drivers side door actuator to fix the soft close and I'm not sure if it was just a coincidence but I noticed my trunk wasn't latching all the way. I believe this problem has been there but who knows.. anyway thinking it was probably the mechanism as now that the soft close was fixed on the drivers side the trunk could have failed from added pressure I went ahead and replaced it with a brand new unit. The old unit was cracked and leaking air so it was bad, but the problem is still there!

The trunk closes itself fairly softly until it gets to the soft close then the soft close pulls it down but doesn't reach the second latching position. When I try to push down on it myself to latch to the second position I can't even latch it. It's clearly not the latch as it's brand new and both did it and I backed out the stops until putting a little drop of paint on them wouldn't transfer to the trunk and it still won't latch.. I noticed the eye that it latches to wasn't very tight and I'm thinking that may need adjustment.. you would think it should go up a little but to me it looks like it's hitting there and it may need to go down or side to side.. can anyone suggest the best way to adjust this?

Can someone snap a picture of their eye (the latch on the bottom of the trunk jam) so I can see the position it's in for a starting point? Thanks guys!
