Drivers door won't open from outside
Hello I'm new to this forum and am having trouble opening the drivers door from the outside. It had become an intermittent problem at first but now it will not work at all on my 01 S430. Has anyone had or heard of what causes this to happen? I am unsure if it is the door handle or part of some air leak. Any info would be a great help as to how to approach the problem.

Just for clarification - do you mean that the door will not unlock, or do you mean that the unlocked door will not open with the handle?

Thank you! Yes the unlocked door will not open from the outside. I open it by reaching in from another door and pull the inside door handle. My door locks work as well as the soft close on all doors.

update
I fixed this the other day with a can of penetrating oil by lubing the latch and pulling the door handle out and while holding it out sticking the red straw into the crack and lubing in there as well. I suspect that the linkage got dry or corrosion and I also suspect this may take a few times before it smoothes out

There is a rod that goes from the handle mechanism. It is held by a clip so you can adjust when the handle will open the door. Its behind the PSE equipment in the door and you can only feel for it...
Look at the attached PDF page 12...thats the piece...the clip will flip open ....then you can push it up as you pull the rod a little down to shorten the distance. Then clip it closed again and try.
Good luck

So im having the same problem and before i start drilling on anything i would like to confirm thats the issue
it started as just a hard to open door where it took some force to pull the handle enough to get it to open and now it just wont open at all. Can anyone who has done this before advise me on this and if i have any other options besides drilling my door. Thanks.

Have you repeatedly tried lubricating the latch mechanism as described in Post #4?
BTW - WD-40 is not a really good lubricant. Try using a good lubricant - the best that I know of is "KROIL - The Oil That Creeps" in an orange can.

Ill give it a shot thanks for the recommendation
it did seem like it was an adjustable thing that slowly loosened and made the door harder and harder to open until it no longer opens. Like the handle fully extends but doesnt have the open click anymore.

You got to take the door panel off and check the link rod. It probably came un clipped. put it back together and zip tie it after you do.

hvacdude, I took the panel off and the outside door handle. Pics below. 1st is outside door handle. the yellow arrow points to the piece that is supposed to open the door but is not working. the 2nd is from inside. the yellow arrow points to the piece that is attached to the outside pice that's not working. Is this the link rod? If so, what do I zip tie it too? Thanks in advance for your help.
