Exclamation *NEED ADVICE* 2006 s430 W220 4matic

I have a 2006 s430 W220 4matic and the car has no issues no intermittent lights whatsoever, but there seems to be an issue with the cluster not displaying the odometer, nav, audio, and the time from the command unit. I bought the car like this, so I don’t know when this started and the history. Me being a computer tech thinking it could be the cluster itself, why not! But it wasn’t, I got a new cluster and the same thing is going on. I can’t change the time in the command unit and the cluster don’t show the time from the command unit. I’m think it’s a communication issue from the command to the cluster. Does that make any sense guys my vin is WDBNG83J26A484579

I would start with a Star diagnostic to check for faults and investigate further from there.

I would agree with EP, likely need to program the new display. Also there were recalls on this part in earlier models. When you say you got a new one do you mean new MB part or used part from old car? also I have heard that some guys can repair these so you might want to look into that. I would start in the w220 encyclopedia, lots of info there that might help.

Thanks guys great advice, the cluster is used off eBay with miles on it. I matched the cluster with the vin#, all the gauges and lights work it’s just the mileage show dashes. I have been doing a little research and most people are telling me that i have to take it to MB and that a cluster have to be virginized so it can pull the actual miles from the EIS. I paid $4900 for the vehicle it’s a great running/ looking car but I’m contemplating spending an extra $2000-$2500 what do you guys think, is it worth it?

I don't understand how fixing your problem would cost as much as $2500 unless that is a dealer quote. If you can find an INDY who has a STAR system and knows how to use it I would think that the new cluster could be reprogrammed.

Yes that’s what the dealer quoted me. That is really high and I don’t intend on paying that. New cluster $1500 plus labor which is somewhere around $500 give or take. I am looking for a professional MB mechanic to dig into the system.

You get the dashes when a cluster has been swapped from another car . Obviously the cluster was swapped once before you bought it . In early cars it can be fixed but with later cars like yours , a used cluster cannot be virginized without having the origjnal cluster

the only solution is a brand new cluster abd $2500 is about right . Frankly it’s silly to pay that kind of money just to see the mileage instead of dashes - just live with it

Tusable you are absolutely right earlier models wouldn’t be a problem but the trip and everything else work like a charm. It would’ve been nice to see the info on the dash nav, and audio but the command unit is working minus the date being able to change and time showing up on cluster. The car is in great condition and have gotten a lot of compliments.
