Also, while the system will read and play back MP3 encoded DVDs, I've had mixed success as the song count gets higher. In some cases I have gotten it to read 1000 song discs and in other cases it won't (the working discs always work and the non-working ones don't). One thing for sure is that as the song count increases, the load time increases with it. Discs with 1000 songs take over 2 minutes to load!
I've also noticed that the system's resume function can be spotty with MP3 discs. Depending upon which disc or folder the system was playing prior to turning off the car, it may or may not resume from that point when the car is turned back on. It seems that if the song was from a disc with all songs in the root directory or within a directory that has 100+ songs then it can't resume from the last song plaed and instead starts from teh beginning of the disc. My best guess is that the memory buffer is pretty small and the system wasn't designed to properly handle discs with as many as I'm putting on DVD-Rs.
What's also annoying is that, when the disc does resume, the long load process is repeated as if you had newly inserted that disc into the system. So, if you were running around town in and out of stores, you would have to wait for the disc load delay every time. It isn't so bad if you have a CD-R with 100 or so songs on it but it gets annoying with DVD-Rs.
As I said, there are clear indications that the system was not designed to handle MP3 encoded DVDs but since it can read burned DVDs and their MP3 content, it seems like someone should have expanded the system's capabilities just slightly to cover them properly.
