Newbie
Hello.
My name is Mandy and am in love with the S-Class. The reason why I registered myself to this forum is because I would like to know more about this car.
The engine info I'm familiar with (with thanks to my boyfriend), i.e. the S-55 is the AMG.
But I would like to know what sorts of options are available for this beautiful car and does the projectors come on the newer models or is just an AMG option?
Thanks!

Hey hey Mandy! I'm Ricky and let me be one of the first to welcome you to mbworld.org!
There's a tremendous amount of options for the W220 (what a lot of us call the S-Class) and pretty much anything can be done as long as you have the money and the patience to do it thanks to the AMG Special Wishes department.
The Projectors (I assume you are talking about the head lamps) are standard features on the S-Class line up. I believe they are a near $3000 retrofittable option for MY2002 and lower sedans.
A few common options are:
4 Zone Climate Control - I like this feature a lot because it lets whoever, have whatever kind of enviroment they want. Usually in our Bimmer whenever I drive, I like having it extremely cold while everyone else takes a more reasonable 74ish degrees. This comes in handy![Smilie](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
Active Ventilated Seats/Rear - This is a very debated option. If I can pick a Mercedes with it, I would because of the proven issue that it actually works in my dads R230. Keeps your back from becoming sticky to the leather. I wish I had this on my LS400.
Distronic - Active cruise control is another name for this. It's like having Radar that ties in with your cruise control so your car automatically slows down as the car in front of you slows down. Sweet feature and great for long highway drives.
Electronic Trunk Closer - Just a convenience item. I like it on my aunts S500. Careful though, I've been smacked in the chin many times by this![Frown](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/frown.gif)
Keyless Go - What a trick. My dad still has the cards for his R230 but as of now, they offer it integrated into the key. Sucks, but still sweet!
Rear Side-Windows Roller Blinds - Paparrazi. Oh yeah, and the sun![Smilie](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
Those are the main options that you order from the factory, the rest such as rims and kits and things can be installed later on. Personally, I wouldn't go for any of Mercedes' rims and kits and go something custom aftermarket. But I guess that's why I'm not in charge of money management at my house

Thanks Ricky! That was very helpful.
The reason why I asked about the projectors was because I've been seeing the odd few with projectors, so I thought that it was an easy way to tell if it is an AMG, or if it's a newer model.
Is there a gallery specifically for the S-Class that I can easily find and be quickly be fixated on here??
:p

Check out Ebay you will see everything with all different options, colors and wheels. I agree I love the projector style lights on the 2003 and up S-Class.
Good luck you found the right place to start.

Hey Mandy!
The S500 has a V8 302 HP Engine, and the S600 has a V12 493 HP Engine. The price difference between the two is about $40K. Also, the S600 offers Parktronic Standard. That's all I can remember right now. Good Luck with your search.

Welcome to MBWorld.org!
The W220 is an amazing car, but make sure you check out the W221 (Next S-Class due sometime 2005/06) spy shots in this thread. Make sure you check out the 3rd and 4th pages; those are the best shots I've seen so far. They look promising.![Big Grin](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
Welcome, once again, and enjoy your stay.

Welcome to MBWorld Forum, Mandy!
Re: New W221 styling - the thing that I starting to hate is the back end. It looks like a somewhat copy of this ugly new 7-Series BMW.
Unfortunately, I don't think they will change the body style (back end) for production of W221. And also it is have a little smell of new Honda Accord style.
On the other hand, W221 should have an array of enhancements inside the vehicle (starting from Navi, iDrive - or whatever they'd call it and so on).
So IMHO style-wise both Beemer and Merc are degrading with last introductions.. In MB case its mostly because of Bruno Sacco retirement (his last design was W220, and he was lead designer in MB for the last 40 years).
Looks like because of lack of creativeness, MB start using lower-end tricks - such as partial copying, etc. I still hope that MB will get back on track with loss of Bruno, but only time will show...
