Car won't Start
Hello MB Family,
Need help understanding....I just replaced the gear shifter assy and now the car won't start. All connections are established and lights come on, horn blows, dash lights, etc.
Which component could be causing the failed start?

On the W220 cars, the shifter is one of the four "theft relevant" items that are hard-coded to the operating system. In other words, you can not change the shifter by itself. If you change any one of the items (Key(s), EIS, Engine ECU, or Shifter), you must change all four as a matched set, that is to say they all must come off the same and running Car.
They are hard-coded, matched sets, and you cannot re-program single used units even with a Clone SDS (the available version of the MB diagnostic/maintenance computer system).

EIS = Electronic Ignition Switch
What is the problem with the shifter? The theft prevention part is electronic, located on the inner mechanism. If you just have a damaged lever, I would think (but I don't know) that you could replace the lever on your present shifter.
