Engine vibraion, but different..
I have a problem with my w220 S350.
The engine is vibrating and making some noise in the cabin from 1500 to approx 4500rpm, on every gear and in neutral.
Ive changed the hydro clutch, and the harmonic ballancer. The result is absolutely no vib at iddle and between 3000 and 3500rpm, but the main vibrations are still present.
One very interresting observation - when i drive the car trough a bigger puddle, and the water splash enters the engine bay the car runs silky smooth for a few seconds till the water dryes out.
Im struggling wit this since approx one year and i have no clue what can it be, maybe the belt tensioner is faulty.. I dont know..
If u have some ideas please let me know, thanks!

My mechanic checked the engine, transmission and exhaust mounts - they are ok.
It's raining a lot today, and again, when i drive trough a deeper puddle the whole vibration stops - engine runs silky smooth.

You don't mention if the vibrations are same with hot and cold engine.
Driving through water, the water not only enters the engine bay but also cools down the entire exhaust. Being thin walled, it heats up again within a few seconds.
If the exhaust have "body" contact somewhere along it's path, it can make a lot of noise, sometimes difficult to point out.
A warm exhaust expands, a cold one retracts ( water ??)

Chased down the same issue. The trans mount cannot checked by eye, and will look good even though it has failed, but more likely than not it's a whole slew of problems adding up.
Engine mounts, harmonic balancer, trans mount, exhaust mounts, strut mounts, other suspension components, everything.
And like I said it could be all of these mixed together. These cars weren't designed/built properly
