2001 s500 need help electrical/codes
hello i have a 2001 s500 it has the engine light and after its started and running and driven when i go back into park its wont come back out of park until i turn the key off then back on.someone mentioned tcm and 13 pin plug the tcm was soaked so dried and cleaned replaced 13pin plug.still does it on my obd scanner has code po600 says no can communication with ac,das, eis, instrument cluster and so you know the car has a heavy draw so i have to disconnect the battery every night.i have been trying to figure it out .someone recommended getting a icarsoft mbii for better diag so i ordered one waiting for it now.when the car runs it runs and drives fine instrument cluster works,AC works only things i notice is none of the center black buttons on the dash light up or work (tow, airlift, ect) and after its started and driven when you go to park cannot shift until turned off and on,engine light is on.not really sure what direction to go in.any help would be appreciated was told by someone the eis could be failing another shop said maybe the key or shifter.would like to get figured out and the battery draw please help thank you

A very complex failure scenario. In any case it has to do with CAN bus. But if it is the cause of the failures or just a follow up on another failure, hard to tell. In my opionion the only diagnosis tool, which can shed light on the causes, is the MB Stardiagnosis. None of the carsoft or other OBD tools can sort out selectively the failure sequence, and lead to actions required.
thank you for the quick response.im going with the mbii cause i cannot afford mbstar and the dealerships around me want 300 just to have them 1hr diagnose and they stated that with there diagnoses there is no guarantee that it will correct the problem unless i have them do the repairs.cause i was going to pay the 300 and do the repairs myself (i could tell he did not like me stating that) so im trying to fix myself.i cant afford to spend thousands on a car thats only worth 3000 max.i should be recieving the mbii today or tomorrow all of the forums and MB people i have spoke with said the mbii is the best diagnoses obd can reader you can get for mercedes besides the dealership mbstar. everything i have read on it said only thing it cannot do that the mbstar does is reprogram and coding.my standard obd2 scanner just retrieves generic code from the MB its worthless on a mercedes.as soon as i get the mbii i will post what codes and systems it has trouble with.thank you if there is anything i could check or try please let me know thanks
ok so recieved the icarsoft mbii and scanned my mercedes 01 s500 here is what i got. TCM p2314 no com n73 2316 no message n19. ESM p1906 fault com n73. ESP c1504-009 steering angle not initiated c1024 no com n73 .Suspension c1026-002 no com n73 c1525-032 plunger travel calibration .OCP b1166 a67 short to ground b1167 a67r2 short to ground b1879 m12ml inactive b1881 shd not standardized. EIS b1000 control module n73. HRA b1480 left headlight shorted b1481 right headlight shorted b1074 can fault n73. UCP b1000 module fault b1559 e16 airbag control signal not transmitted. SAM right front b1639 coolant level low b1101-002 front right lock switch .so after noting codes i tried clearing all the TCM,ESM,ESP,Suspension,OCP,EIS,HRA,and SAM front right all came back instantly.from what i am seeing i feel i need a new electronic ignition switch due to b1000 and a new UCP b1000.please let me know if im on the right path and if there is anything i can test or to verify.and if im missing something that you mercedes guys notice.thank you for any help just trying to get it going.so you know has a heavy battery drain(overnight dead) i have replaced pin connector on transmission due to leaking and removed and cleaned TCM due to trans fluid in harness and tcm and cleaned both plugs.engine light on.and i dont know if this helps when i first put the key in and start the car i can shift from park to any gear but once i put back in park it will not unlock from park unless i turn key off and back on.thank you
O man it's hard to read a post with no punctuation and lots of run-on sentences that flow in a stream of consciousness.but I would start with the heavy draw on the battery and the reason that you're unplugging it every night which is a terrible thing to do b/c you need to reset sunrf, windows, stability every time.you should get a charger or battery maintainer and keep it topped off until you can figure this out.but I wouldn't have wasted the money on a diagnostic tool that is likely to leave you even more confused.start by pulling up the carpet in the front passenger seat area and checking for water.then pull up the rear seat cushion and check for water.a shorted SAM will cause all these symptoms and water damage is very common.IDK what codes you got and it doesn't matter b/c if you have a bad SAM you will get lots of codes that mean nothing.codes are not a definitive source of troubleshooting, they simply tell u what the computer is seeing.but the computer might be seeing a fault b/c a component is bad or b/c the wiring to the component is bad or another component is causing that component to fault out.icarsoft mbii is better than an OBD reader but not much.you've gone from like, 5% of codes to like 10% of codes, so you think you're reading what's going on but you're missing the rest of the codes and you're missing all of the diagnostic steps that DAS/XENTRY (or STAR) will walk you through.so I wouldn't expect much from the icarsoft reader.
TL;DR: Start with the simple and check for water intrusion as described above.

Thank you i will check for water on the floors. If i could afford the mbstar i would be using it.According to all the mercedes folks icarsoft mbii is 2nd best for MB diagnostics. I feel it put me closer since it is showing all of the modules and reading the live data in each module.I am blind with generic obd and my snap on scanner useless for MB diagnostics.A mercedes tech told me to replace or send the EIS out to be checked .He said the b1000 is standard for a faulty module and they replace EIS modules all the time. But i will check around for water in the vehicle and if the SAM modules are wet or damp first.Thank you very much for your help and time

You really aren't looking for water - you are looking for damage caused by water, and for traces that water has been there.
You need to look very carefully in the floor recesses under the right front carpet, and under the right rear seat cushion in the SAM, for any deposits or corrosion caused by current or past water leakage.

the list of "failures" require a well trained diagnostic freak, who can tell apart original failures from follow up failures. What you have read, is just a ton of existing, new and old failures, no relation to the root cause visible, for untrained people. What you can do is, just erase all failures, and start diagnosis again, and see what shows up again. But to start replacing SAM's or other components makes little sense.
Thank you i am going to pull up carpet and check the Sam modules for traces of water past or present.Im not replacing any modules as of now just trying to pinpoint or hopefully test to confirm before replacing.I did clear all codes everything except the OCP came back instantly. The reason i am thinking the EIS is due to almost every code is related to N73 EIS .And the EIS has a module fault b1000 as what mercedes and all of the mercedes forums have show for a b1000 is a failed module.I was hoping for a way to test the EIS or see if its functioning correctly by the live data on the icarsoft mbii.Without having to send it out to be tested. If i find anything i will update you.THANK YOU very much for the help and ideas i really appreciate the advice
just want to say thank you for all the help.i would suggest the mbii to anyone with a mercedes it diagnosed the eis faulty module.remove, replaced and had MB program it.i no longer have the heavy draw or the 15 codes and problems.just wanted to say thanks and let you know what corrected it
