Just got my new flat hood badge from Performance products
I have to say I'm a bit disappointed It's "Plastic" no offense to Performance products they got it out to me real quick at a cheap price $39.00 w/ship hand.. I thought it would be made of metal like the original, I even went to the Stealership 1st and I have a friend in the parts dept. he told me to order it through Performanceproducts.com, he even brought out the latest performance products catalog to show it to me is this the only option I have for a flat hood badge?? anybody out there know of something better?? Thanks in advance......Sean...

the OEM flat emblem is just that, OEM.. MB does not manufacture their flat hood emblem in anything other than plastic.

Try the dealer
I just bought one yesterday from Mercedes Benz of Miami. I think it is an MB part. It looks metal to me. Fits perfectly and looks like the one on the C or ML class.

Funny thing I went by my local dealership here in Santa Barbara, Cutter motors. I looked at an ML class, E, and a C they all were brand new and had the "Crappy Plastic Badge" I can see how some people might mistake it for metal ounce it's on the car but I brought my new one with me into the dealership to hold it up and do side by side comparisons and it's the same!! .. I can't believe they would skimp on such a small but integral item displaying their co. logo what a joke.....

I took a magnet to my emblem today. Your right. It's plastic. Never would have known that because it seriously looks like metal with baked in blue enamel.

what's funny is that the cost to make a metal version is ridiculously inexpensive (I have already looked into it).

It's the same MB part number: A 638 317 0116. I thought it was metal. It sure looks like it. The installation hardware is metal, so why not the badge?

Actually the Badge itself according to the packaging I received say it was made in Spain, the hardware looks generic it just says performance products on it but they most likely out source the hardware from Germany like you said....

Is there a smaller one?
Yeah, I have that hood badge from Performance Products... I was a bit bummed about it being plastic..
But isn't there a smaller one that is metal and fits inside the recess of the hood? Similar to the base of the plastic one?
