Windshield replacement...which option should i choose?

Need some advise on a windshield replacement

Has anyone used or recommend safelight or an aftermarket company to replace the windshield...cost is about $380

Or, I can make a $500 deductible claim and get the windshield replaced at the benz dealer.
Their cost is $560 windshield + $94 installation kit + $375 in labor = $1100 with tax.
I would just pay $500.

Has anyone have strong feelings to only use a MB part or have you used an aftermarket company? Safelight never mentioned any installation kit...so I am assuming they don't even use one.

Any help would be appreciated.....I have a huge crack stretched across the windshield.

The difff in cost of $120, should be a no brainer. I would go to the dealer and have it done.

My insurance has no deductible for windshield replacement. You may want to double check.

I own a 2001 S430 Sport, Silver over Charcoal.
I had the same issue on my '01 S430 and went to the dealer so I could get the OEM window with the MB star on it. Though it would be better to keep the car clean with OEM parts (and since mine has the rain sensor). Other places offered OEM glass, but couldn't get the MB logo. Cost me $1,100 also but its clean, and has the Daimler sticker in the window too. can't tell its been replaced.

If you are talking about the rectangular grey MB window sticker, you can buy that in the parts department of most MB dealers for a couple of bucks. No need to get the windshield from them.

But I would urge you to get the OEM windshield with proper installation. This also gives you warranty if you get tension cracks due to improer installation. Like SUHAIL said, it's a no-brainer.

In fact, check with the body shop and see if they can install an '04 windshield which has the infrared reflective coating on it. The only thing that might be different is that the 04 has more rain sensor openings, but that should be a non-issue.

This way you get a nice windshield upgrade for $120.

Good luck

My insurance paid for me to go through safelite. Safelite replaced my windshield with an OEM. Although I had to drop the car off at there shop because they apparently dont do work on expensive cars out in the field cause the risk is just to great is what I was told.

Just had my windshield replaced. Ended up having the dealer do it; good thing to. When the windshield was replaced, the connector to the rain sensor got bent and ended up having to be replaced. Also, I talked to the tech who worked on my car, and he told me that some of the non-OEM windshields caused problems with the rain sensor pickup due to the difference in light refraction (which apparently is how rain is detected).

Anyway, the dealer did a great job, though it cost me $1100.....

I have the same insurance with farmers, its $2.23/month to add on to your policy and it is absolutely worth it for less that $30 / year.

It is no deductitible and no question asked rider for all glass breakage not just the wind sheild., which with all the new features on the glass is a worth while investment.

OEM at the dealer should be the way to go no questions asked.
