Hi Guys, I've got hold of a 2006 year model w220 s320 which is
damage beyond repair. I've decided to transfer all the the systems into a small delivery truck, big job I must say, but managed it.
I've started on the wiring and it will be a bit tricky. Some systems will not be used and others must manipulated to make it run again, I hope.... My biggest challenge now is to get hold of a complete wiring diagram of this car. Hours and hours of searching on the net did not bring me any luck, can somebody guide me to a decent diagram?
In my opinion, the best thing by far is for you to buy a STAR system. You will basically have a rebodied W220, so you are going to need it very, very much. The cloned DAS/STAR will have the wiring diagrams, the complete workshop manual, the complete diagnostic suite, and will give you the capability to make changes to the W220 systems. If you ever get to the point that you don't need the system any more, you can get your money back by selling it. Seems like a no-brainer.
Hallo Wally. Thank you so much for your info, that will be the route I will go. Can you maybe lead me to a distributor of this system,I will check if I can find somebody here in South Africa but I very much doubt it, and also do I need to tell them the info I want on the system?
You will be buying it out of China, probably on Aliexpress. The most simple way is to buy a complete system, perhaps:
- Dell D830, 4GB RAM, 2.0 or better CPU. A D630 is the same computer with a smaller screen, and will work well.
- MB STAR Software on SSD
- C4 Multiplex
- All cables.
A complex subject - this will take you a while to read...
There will be a steep learning curve, but the power that you gain will make your project much, much easier and improve your odds for success. An interesting project...

You might be able to improve the system if they can supply it with a SSD (Solid State Drive) containing the software at a reasonable cost - that would make the system somewhat faster. You also might be able to improve the D630 if it does not already have 4 GB (two 2 GB cards) memory, or by installing a faster CPU, if the installed CPU is not 2 GHz or better. A 2.2 GHz cpu from China costs $10 on USA eBay. You need to see if the software includes the "key generation" software, so that you do not have to depend upon the vendor to generate the mandatory software keys for you every time that something changes on your system.
The system never comes with a user manual, or any instructions of any kind, so expect some frustration in learning how to use it. It is an amazingly powerful system...
