Help with 2000-2002 S430....Newbie

I am in the market for a 2000-2002 S430......

I have owned several MB's, BMW's and numorous Porsches. So I am very german car oriented.
I need some help with the problem areas to look for in this model. Also, what is the market on them. I am seeing $35,000 fow some 00's and some of the 02's seem very high in the 50's.... Is the car that different?

I am very interested in an 00' with only 17,000 miles. I think I can buy the car for somewhere between 35 and 40............ No fancy options like climate seats etc.... does have nav though...

Any help or recomendations are appreciated!

I would say get an 01 or 02 most of the kinks are worked out of them by then. I would get the latest model year you can.

I have a 2000 S500 and the car is flawless, havn't seen any quirks or glitches...

But I should have bought a 2003+ because I've spent so much money just to make the car looks nice like a 2003+ (headlights,tail... now I want sport body kit, side mirror, dash... )

2000 S500
I would go with an '03. The car is much more refined. The widescreen nav is much nicer too. Just a totally different driving experience.

If you do go with the '00, just know that you might spend 10k on upgrades if you hang out with us!!

My 2 cents-
Whatever you get, get it Starmarked. While the car is great overall and very reliable, one small fix could kill you without the warranty. My old 2000 S430 had a strange suspension thing wrong with it that was quoted at $3500 to fix until I insisted on the warranty fix (long story, but problems with the dealership).

Watch for Rust!

Believe it or not my 2000 s430 has about $8,000 worth of rust damage. MB-USA says too bad please go away!. I have learned that there was a manufacturing defect on the seams. Look underneath all of the doors, and the front fenders seems behind the head lights. Proceed with EXTRME CUATION!

I need four new doors, two new fenders and a trunk lid!

The 2000 has a bigger key (Old style). 2001 and up uses the current smaller key.
