more than the s600 motor mounts

I have a 2004 S600 and the motor mounts need replacement. I have read some other posts about the work to come and the cost if I do not tackle it myself. The car has 127K miles and I would figure to do the transmission mount as well. My key question is if one takes on the time or expense to replace the motor mounts, what other items should be replaced at the same time? I would figure ABC lines, but are there other items that should be addressed as long as it is opened up?

How do you know you need motor mounts ? A simple test is with the hood up , car in drive , one foot on the gas and one foot firmly on the brake , rev the engine and look at engine through the opening in the hood to see how much the engine rocks side to side when you rev it quickly

My car passed that test - and still needed motor mounts. The mounts had collapsed to the point that the front of the engine was resting on the pulse damper hose (U shaped hose to nowhere coming off the ABC pump). This caused the failure of that hose and loss of hydraulic pressure. My only indication of mount collapse was increased noise from the ABC pump at about 2000 RPM. Sounded like the accumulator on the pressure regulator had worn out, but that wasn't the cause (I know, because I replaced it.)

If you have a shop do the motor mounts, it will be very expensive. Mercedes says to pull the engine. If you are doing the motor mounts, then you can lower the subframe to do the job.

I would do the couple of ABC lines that are under the engine and hidden by the subframe. I also did the compression bypass valves on each turbo. The car was much quieter with the new mounts.

As perhaps mentioned elsewhere, the motor "leapt" out of the engine bay when the test was done. Motor mount$ needed I am sad to say.

Ok then it’s definitely time to change Motor mounts and abc hoses

fcpeuro has the “amg black series “ motor mounts which are stronger then normal s600
mounts

S600 motor mounts

Many thanks on the AMG Black Series motor mounts suggestion. I would like to go through this exercise only once!

That's a great tip! Wish I knew about the AMG black series mounts when I did my mounts 2 years ago.
Also agree that one should just replace those ABC lines while in there.

Is it better to pull the motor and address other items at the same time? Or, is it better to drop the sub-frame to access the motor mounts? Will pulling the motor "save" on overall labor costs?

I suspended my engine with an engine crane and just dropped the carrier slightly to get to everything

Wow! I wish I had such a set up to accomplish this. Thank you for a better understanding. My hope is to address the mounts of course and the abc lines. I understand there is one abc line that hugs the firewall above the transmission (?) or motor and might be worth addressing in a "motor out" or suspended (?) situation.

That looks exactly like how I did it!

Engine hoist, loosen the 4 subframe bolts, drop the subframe enough to gain access, but not enough to warrant disconnecting the steering. I did add a jack stand and block of wood underneath the oil pan, because I'm not risking my hands on the hydraulics in that hoist... Lot going on in there - but I did the turbo compression bypass valves as well, because I could (can't remember if I said that already).
