cd changer magazine wont come out feels soft and moves
could a bump or jolt cause this? can anyone help out?
How'd you get the jammed magazine out? If MB sends out the unit they say it's 4-6 weeks until your CDs are mailed back, and then you probably end up with Britney Spears or Cher Live...

I'm curious to know how and why this happened so that I can avoid the problem in my current car.

to changer fit and may bind when attempting to eject. Some prodding is needed.
I think I use finger tip pressure to find the sweet spot to press while pushing
the eject button. Only happens with one of my magazines, the others are
okay.
Insofar as the 'soft' feel, it could be a result of the internals mounted on
rubber donuts. This helps cushion and dampens the road shock. I opened
a DOA changer up few months back (MC 3198) to try to better understand
why MC 3010 and 3198 were so problematical in their performance. I didn't
gain much insight, though I did note the shock absorbers located on each
side...at least 4 of them.

the stowaway well.
lift trunk floor liner and look for couple of sheet metal screws. remove.
CAREFULLY lift changer and mount and place on trunk floor. DO NOT KINK
the orange fiber harness.
reach around to the rear of changer and remove the 1) small black power
plug 2) larger, postage stamp size fiber plug
the changer can now be removed from the mount and examined.
DONT KINK THE ORANGE FIBER harness in any way. it'll prob cost you over
$100 to replace it. the labor alone might dbl that
trunk liner and use flashlight to look for bright orange fiber harness, twin
lead. It will probably be zip tied with other bundled electrical wires up
alongside the metal fender. Presuming, of course, that your car is USA
issue. I understand that it may not be preinstalled if non-US.
CORRECTION: the orange, fiber leads will probably NOT be zip tied. i
was tired when I typed. the black, power lead will be zip tied with other
electrical harnesses, whereas the FIBER leads will be dangling loose. left
loose to prevent damage. handle the fiber harness with care (!)

Traded my 2000 vet in on this car so all is different. This has 58k miles and is a pleasure to drive. I was just getting used to working on the vet and now a new challenge.....
near other electrical bundle. Once you see it, just follow it and feel for
the postage size terminated plug just dangling for your delight.
Snake the fiber down towards the location of the CD changer.
DO NOT KINK or otherwise damage the fiber harness. If you do, it'll be a
beach to fix. Dealer labor will probably cost more than the replacement
wiring.
The other fiber out of the amp is probably used for phone

changer MC3010....
