w220 front bag replacement

How to replace w220 front bag, not the strut only bag? I didn't find any tutorials from the internet so i have no idea how its done.

Also it most likely is the bag leaking? car drops from front right side when it sits and i also hear hissing from right side of the vehicle when i drive over bumps etc. aaand the car doesnt really raise from the raise button and compressor is running pretty much all the time when driving.

Thanks in advance.

Hey, take a look here:
https://w220.wiki/index.php?title=Ai...spension_strut

If you hear compressor working all the time, would suggest to replace leaking strut, otherwise compressor will go bad very soon. Also would check valve block for any leaks.

Yeah i already got a new compressor, and that looks fairly difficult to replace the bag, might just buy the whole strut

Thanks for the answer bozo

you asked him how to replace just the bag. and he linked everything you ever needed are you serious

maybe you are mad because you have a slow 3.2L when the proper spec is a v8

I had no idea how its done on this car, it looks like too much of a hassle to do it. Its not worth the 100 euros to replace the bag vs replace the entire strut.

I have never driven a diesel even, dont they smell?

did you find an aftermarket strut/air assembly? They are very very cheap aftermarket however I have yet to try the cheapest ebay ones, most guys go with the Arnott.
I have only observed one replacement and required nothing special and not much time, hardest was pulling back the trim

My airmatic stays inflated just fine, it just has no dampening effect left. original at 160k I have recently learned (the valving for sport mode works great though)

Yeah a diesel smells, especially older ones. mine even pushes a lot and i mean a lot of black smoke when pedal is to the floor.

i bought the cheapest ones i found on ebay (maxspeedingrods) for 210€ 2 units and they will arrive at the end of this month. (Will post update how they work) I believe i have original struts but someone replaced bags and other parts of the airmatic system and the adjustable shocks work fine.

Im pretty sure there isnt a dampening feature on the cheaper chinese struts even though they claim they have, but instead some electrical component in the small can shaped thing attached to the strut. It could also be just empty or plain metal.

I replaced the struts and they seem to work fine, but the adjustable shocks seem to have only the comfortable mode. Everything went smoothly except the electrical connector on the passenger side which was a pain to get out and i had to hammer it back in it was so stiff (it was completely identical compared to the old one).

Still i was surprised that i didnt have to do any extra work since the car is 23 years old and has 340 000km.

Also im going to replace compressor soon, hopefully the bolts arent completely rusted out.

glad to hear you are back on road

the internet is full of chineasium compressors for about 50 bucks. then TRQ for 190$ but original mercedes is 320$

(my compressor is noisy but honestly it rarely kicks on when car is driving. at a standstill it goes on a bit more. I am way overdue for a refresh since it is original suspension somehow. there has to be a leak somewhere as my car squats in the front after sitting for couple weeks/months)

Actually i was driving the car the whole time

I had already bought a compressor from miessler automotive for 250 euros, and i also head that the cheap chinese compressors arent that good.
My compressor is very noisy, it makes a clanking sound and it vibrates the car a lot. Compressor still kicks in quite often i have to replace rear struts soon.

I recommend checking the airline connectors with soap water from all 4 corners + compressor and valve block, theyre around 10 euros for a 10 pack from china. You most likely have a tiny leak in bag or airline connector.

good idea, thanks for steering me...

( on a funny side note a friend of mine had a GL and it kept leaking at the valve block so they coated everything in epoxy just poured it on the connectors and voila its at 250k now )
