Hi
My car was in the shop fro allignment and dealer noted that I need new front brakes. They acutally change pads AND rotors at the same time. The quoted price for front bakes was $650 (plus tax)
The job could be done in about half of that price.
First, get the right discount on parts (i.e. buy through internet).
Second, get the quoted price for labor only - thay cannot cheat you there since there is a time limit via manual
.
Here some links for internet stores:
AutohausArizon.
German Star TireRack

On the other hand, the new rotors (at wholesale) cost about $110 or so and the job fot turning the older rotors (considering the hourly rate of $100/hr) will be about the same

So for about the same price its better to get the new rotors, huh?
Yet, $650 quote I noticed before is ridiculous

Parts (wholesale) worth about $250 or less (delivered)... so $400 for labor!!!
Not a bad markup!

Do you care if it is a hole in the wall independent MB BMW 2 bay shop?
Since you are in hollywood you can always get parts at BMA autoparts in Glendale.

If you go with original OEM or equivalent (pads and rotors) then BOTH FT and RR plus labor would run for approx. $300 up to $400 EACH (non-MB shop).

Brakes
I never turn rotors when i do an import brake job. I can tell you thou when you take your car to the dealer for brake work believe me they charge over a 1000 dollars for a complete brake job on your car........4 rotors...2 sets of pads and sensors. At least 800.00 of that is total profit for them. I would find an independent shop that does good work for less.

i took in my IS300 lexus a week ago for a brake job even they did exactly what DMI said they changed my rotors and new brakes which ended up costing me $700...so when i had to get my brakes changed on my mercedes i specifically told them to do just brakes which was a $350 CAD job plus taxes and labor

well bro it all depends from person to person some have the leisure time to find brakes and save that $100 or $200 and some dont. i personally would give it in to MB just to save time coz i barely get any from my business and i personally dont mind paying that extra $200 and have the peace of mind of getting it done from MB and quickly plus get a curtosy car while iam at it....
