S55 or S600?
Don't know why they felt the need to go with a NA engine, suppose it's just as it's the fashion, but high power high rev engines like the BMW M power ones go bang
, the new car (w221) will likely be a bit slower unless it's much lighter than the old W220s

, the new car (w221) will likely be a bit slower unless it's much lighter than the old W220sAlot of benefits are to be had over the s/c 5.4 liter by switching to the high revving 6.3.
1. The engine will be significantly lighter than the 5.4 which transalates into more speed and better steering.
2. More consistant performance, since the s/c engines suffer from heat soaking
3. AMG high revving is not exactly the same as the way BMW M does it. The new M's will redline at 8250 rpm or so with 370 or so ft/lbs or torque. AMG's engine does not rev quite as high, which many (myself included) believe is a good thing. By only revving up to 7200-7500 or so rpm, it will generate well over 400 ft/lbs of torque. Which really is more than enough
4. By switching over to high revving and reducing the torque rating, AMG will now be able to use the 7-Gtronic gear box, which has 7 ratios. This will also make the car faster. Plus with a little less torque the tires will hook up faster.
5. Higher revving cars, when geared properly are alot more flexible and controlable than low revving cars.
AMG is about to beat BMW's M at its own game. Dont worry, AMG is still the king of torque. They just have a different take on it now.
