You're actually right the LS430 is faster and not just by a little bit, but then again it's a mercedes forum, we no soul lexus lovers dont know any better.
It's probably the softer handling that has everyone fooled.
LS430 5.9 sec.
745i 6.0 sec.
A8 6.7 sec.
S430 6.8 sec.
S500 6.1 sec.

I dont know about that, Latest Lexus figures on the 2006 IS350 show 0-60 of 5.7 second range, motor trend testing showed 5.1 sec.
BTW, love the pics of your 430. Very classy combination.

If you are considering an S350 vs LS, LS for sure. If you are considering an LS vs a V8 S, then most likely the S. I've seen two different types of spy shots of the LS. One of which looked like an Acura RL from the front, 5 series from the side, and TL from the back. I was not fond of that pic. I did see another spy shot from a Japanese newspaper. That is the first LS I will love for it's looks. It looks like an IS350 somewhat from the back, the new M35/45 from the side, and somewhat like the GS from the front (but one headlight).
I have read on other forums, that it should be great in terms of technology, but we do not know until a press release is out.
People can bash cars all they want, but if you are buying a car of the caliber of an S, LS, 7, or A8, then you should get what you want, and no way you will not be satisfied with any of these cars.
Personally, if I had a dream garage, I'd have an MB, a BMW, and a Lexus.

I don't know what all this speed thing is about with over 4000 pound luxury sedans. Yes I am older and had my fun with speed, but I wasn't buying luxury sedans for that purpose. My S430's 6.8 seconds seems fine to me and beats most people from the stoplight during normal driving. If you want a "beast" then buy the E55 or the S55 and play away....:-)

I'm not trolling, I'm waiting for the day I can re-become a proud Mercedes owner that ended with a 98 SL500, all down hill from there.

I remember the first day my father let me touch the wheel of the S430 at age 15. He was arguing how I cannot handle the 275 hp.
It's been more than a year since and I drive this thing a lot and I think its UNDERpowered. I take great care of this car and drive it like its completely my own, but come on Mercedes, a few extra ponies? Wish we had went with a 500.

It's people of earlier generations that once owned great muscle cars of the 60s that think everything nowadays are underpowered. I spoke to a owner of a Ferrari F355 once, probably aged around 40-50, and he thought that thing was "slow".
I gave two of my friends a ride once. Same age. I gave the w220 some good air to breathe. Both of them thought that thing had great torque and was quite fast. But I didn't.
I just have a great appetite for power, which is not a great thing at this age. I had a ride in a friend's C5 Z06 once, and I think, that is fast.
Went a bit off-topic there, where were we again?

I say drive both, and buy the one you're happy with. Never buy a car, or ignore it, just because some Joe say so . Car forum is just like internet dating: for fun & hobby only, since it's highly subjective (and lot of make-up stories), don't based decision on it.

Apparently the LS Concept, or the actual car will be at the Tokyo Auto Show. Click Here For Pics
I have always been a long time fan of the S. I think the front of the LS, and the new headlights look amazing. I'm not a big fan of the side profile, it looks like the ES/5, and I think the S wins here. I'm not feeling the back end of either car.
I have heard the LS will come in Hybrid and Long Wheel Base form. I'm looking forward to seeing how both of them look.
The car is suppose to get a 4.6L engine. I wonder how much HP and TQ it will output.
I can't wait for the 1st comparo test between the flagships of the big car companies.
